Saturday, Jan.
6th from 11 am to 12:30 pm we are having an open public meeting at
the Flamingo Library on "Ethics Legislation 2007"? We'll share with
the public our own suggestions for improvements in the ethics laws,
and we have invited legislative leaders from both parties and both
chambers; other legislators will also be there. So it will be a good
meeting for citizens to say what they would like to see happen, and
to hear others' ideas about this topic. Here is a "blurb" we wrote
and have mailed to newspapers, TV and radio stations:
The Nevada
Center for Public Ethics (NCPE)
The Nevada
Center for Public Ethics (NCPE) is hosting a Town Hall meeting open
to the public on Jan. 6, 2007 from 11 am - 12:30 pm. Our purpose is
to discuss ethics proposals to be considered by the 2007 Nevada
legislature.
Four invited
Democrat and Republican legislators, and NCPE will present proposals
for 2007 ethics legislation. The meeting will be free and open to
the public, and will be moderated by Mitch Fox of
Vegas PBS
(Channel 10). It will take place at the Flamingo Library's theater,
located one block east of Maryland Parkway on Flamingo, from 11 am
until 12:30 pm on Saturday, January 6th. There is ample free parking
on the south side of the Library.
There is
nationwide distress over corruption in government, and we have
ethics scandals, convictions, and failures by elected and appointed
officials and judges in Nevada concerning disclosure of their
financial interests and their duty to place the public above those
interests. The chances for better laws and better behavior will
hinge on how strongly we citizens cooperate toward ethics
improvement. Come join us to discuss these issues on Jan. 6th!
