Governor Jim Gibbons
released the following statement in
honor and observance of civil rights
leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and
the efforts of all those who contributed
to the establishment of equal rights.
“On this day of
remembrance, we commemorate the life and
achievements of one of our nation’s
strongest voices for equality, Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King’s
message of tolerance and acceptance
helped inspire a movement that fostered
historic change in our nation. In
recent years, we have lost a number of
others who led the fight to end
discrimination, including Dr. King’s
wife and civil rights leader Coretta
Scott King.
“As we begin a new a year
and a new chapter in Nevada’s history,
it is imperative that we continue to
embrace the idea championed by Dr. King
and firmly established in the
Constitution of the United States - that
all men are created equal.”
