Three Las
Vegas projects have been recognized for their community impact as
part of the first annual 2006 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards. The
winners were announced during Mayor Oscar B. Goodman’s State of the
City Address on Wednesday at the World Market Center.
The awards recognize projects that cultivate walkways and streets as
shared public spaces, promote walkability and safety, conserve
resources, and seamlessly link to their surroundings.
The 2006 MUDA winners are:

“All of these projects have helped transform Las Vegas into a place
that is recognized not just for its entertainment, but for its art
and culture,” Mayor Goodman said. “Each year we will recognize the
great design work that is happening in our city and hopefully it
will encourage others to take their work to the next level.”
A nine-member volunteer committee was formed to review and rank the
13 nominations for recommendation to Mayor Goodman, who selected the
award winners. Qualified projects had to be located within the
city and have been constructed by Dec. 31, 2006, to be considered.
The Planning and Development Department provides the staff support
for the program and the volunteer committee.
This was the first annual presentation of the Mayor’s Urban Design
Awards. Nominations for 2007 will be taken in the fall. |
