Open (Bar) Season
Back
at school, my Saturday night (January 6) would have been
called simply "Sketchy." Intimating that things are either
not as they should be or are entirely FUBAR, the local
Ithaca catch-all term "Sketchy" really just captures the
imagery of an elegantly dressed woman darting through a
casino, shoes in hand, bobbing and weaving in the hopes of
escaping her night's company. "Train wreck" is another good
one.
Things
were going swimmingly at
Tao early on.
Sure, I missed enjoying dinner with my friends (even though
they told me to be there at 10:45 p.m. to eat). I arrived to
find all of them rubbing their overstuffed bellies while
mine growled for yellowtail and hot and sour soup but I was
able to overlook it. The Mantourage--all 11 of them--and I
got into the club superfast and everyone immediately
dispersed to find the right music, the right crowd among
Tao's different rooms. At 1 a.m. petite Autumn Reeser was
celebrating her birthday with Tao's sparkler service and a
cake. Meanwhile, over at the New York bar, my tall, handsome
friend said deeply, "I can't watch you drink that house
champagne; it's just not good enough." Well, alright, Mr.
Moneybags, whatayagonna do about that? "We're gonna need a
bottle list over here," said he. A bottle of Perrier Jouet
Rose later (on an empty tummy, mind you) and he has not only
insulted me but also my mother and even worse, LAS VEGAS!
I
would like to tell you I went old Hollywood and tossed a
martini in his face but unfortch I had to stick by him
because he had my coat with his at coat check (ladies, don't
let this happen to you). But I can tell you that the second
our feet hit the marble at the bottom of the casino
escalators, I broke right and dove into the slot machines.
For the second time in 2007 (already!) I was carrying my
shoes and sprinting through a casino. From the valet to
Carl's Jr. in a flash, I reasoned at 4:30 a.m. that a quick
cat nap would be needed before hitting
Seamless' one
year anniversary. But it was not to be. Much to my dismay, I
awoke at 11 a.m. in my bed, still wearing my cocktail dress,
heels, carrying my clutch, and lying on my phone.
Not my
finest hour. Still, they can't all be New Year's Eve... Or
can they?
DJ
John Doe did one hell of a job at the Get Back,
Beauty Bar's
First Friday afterparty the night before, January 5. In the
bar's backyard, Doe threw down a 30 minute tribute to James
Brown that got even me dancing! Granted it was, like, one
degree out there with a wind chill factor of "sh*t! it's
fricken cold!" so dancing may have been the only thing other
than a stiff drink or a David Burns bear hug keeping me
warm. Empire Ballroom
was just getting warmed up when we stopped by to schmooze
with Adam Gould and to congratulate Kiki Kuzmarek on her new
hosting gig. Much to Adam's dismay, the shoes were
close-toed this time. Does anyone know where I can get
OPI nail polish?
Sunday
evening Mr. Robin Leach rounded up the whos-who and hosted a
private shindig at the
Palms Fantasy Tower. There, at 9 a.m. we
watched the premier of his new VH1 reality show, Surreal
Life: Fame Games, where somewhat faded stars compete
for better digs, $100,000 cash, and A-List bragging rights.
"Kiss my behind, Mr. Leach," said Ron Jeremy on the show,
eliciting plenty of laughs then and throughout the one hour
show. Tracy Bingham and other stars of the show were there
to celebrate including master magician Lance Burton who
makes an appearance in episode 5. "I couldn't have asked for
any other fun reality show to be on," cooed Bingham. "We
don't know that any other celebrity will do this after
seeing the show," said Leach, who also referred to the show
as "great train wreck entertainment." When the show was
over, what was left but to head up to
Moon for the
afterparty where Robin, Pussycat Doll Laura Rodriguez,
Wingwoman Jade and myself danced (again!) and watched the
show's LV cast members just be themselves.
What
followed this whole week was a blur of bodies and bars. Stay
tuned for more specifics on the successful new SpyOnVegas
promotion but for now, suffice it to say, the bar was ripped
wide open this week as the Circuit was five-for-five at
SpyOnVegas' Open Bar. Monday started out with Open Bar at
Kona Grill
which then led to dinner there before the party
moved to
Revolution for Cirque du Soleil's
family night. Tuesday night began innocently enough with
Open Bar at the Rio's
iBar but then spiraled quickly into dinner
at Voodoo,
drinks at Voodoo Lounge,
then the premiere of
Studio 54's new Influence industry
appreciation night. To make it simple to understand what
that looked like, it would be easier for me to tell you who
wasn't there than who was because there isn't
enough space on this server to list the attendees. Let's
hope it keeps up in the next few weeks; I'm excited to see!
But that wasn't the end--Wendoh Media hosted a party late
that night at Tao
for the Zune, Microsoft's answer to the iPod. DJ Quest Love
of the Roots became my hero when he played Michael
MacDonald. Damn! And the night which started at 7:30 p.m.
ended around 4:30 a.m....
Wednesday, thankfully was a little mellower. But only by a
little. Open Bar at
Steiner's kicked some Navada-style pub ass.
Thursday's Open Bar at
Lure was drank dry of over 24 bottles of
Patron tequila in the first hour! Dinner at
Red 8 killed
just the right amount of time before
Tryst's one year
anniversary where a nice group of Cornellians gathered to
enjoy a huge booth with a view to a stripper pole. I'm
sorry, does it get better than that? Stay tuned this week
for more details about our night and how it ended with a
large Hispanic gentleman clearing the VIP table with his
fast-moving rear end! Finally, Friday wrapped up much the
same way it began--with another awesome Open Bar, this one
at the Platinum's
Stir Lounge and at the restaurant on the fifth floor. It was
right about that time my liver cried "uncle!" and I granted
it a few days of rest. But only a few--this Friday The
Circuit is heading up to
Sundance for a
third consecutive year of fresh powder (snow, kids, the kind
you ski on, sheesh!) and familiar faces!
