Just when we
have given up hope on seeing any new heavyweights, there comes a guy
by the name of Ty Fields (37-1, 33); all the way from
Montana. Fields is also a college graduate who is trained by
Jessie Reid. Reid has trained 8 champions and is very
positive about Fields going for a heavyweight title.
Fields is by no means on the level of a
Muhammad Ali,
or even that of a Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes,
or even Lennox Lewis.
He does
however; have the heart of a lion and hits pretty hard. His last
fight was probably his toughest fight when he took on Kendrick
Releford (15-9-1, 5KO’s) of Fort Worth, Texas.
|
Releford a better technician doesn’t have the power; he
does however make his punches count. During the early
rounds, he threw straight rights, overhand rights and
straight lefts. He was also the counter puncher, in the
later rounds Fields did come back like a big bear
with a left swollen eye. In fact, he didn’t have a whole lot
of coordination, but the fact was that he was the aggressor
and in the 9th and 10th rounds showed
his heart. He won by a unanimous decision. |

On
the same fight card at the Orleans Arena Ulises
Solis from Guadalajara, Mexico (23-1-2, 18Ko’s) retained
his IBF Flyweight Title in a 12 round bout against Will
Grigsby (19-4-1, 7KO’s) of Saint Paul Minnesota.
Solis was the aggressor throughout the entire 12 rounds,
by unanimous decision. Grigsby on the other hand, is
not to be overlooked; with a good trainer, he will continue
moving up the ladder in fights. |

Another impressive fight was Andy Lee from
Limerick, Ireland (7-0, 4 KO’s) who is a middleweight and
has a tremendous punch; fought a tough 6 rounds against
Arturo Ortega (13-3-3, 7KO’s). Lee won by
a knockout in the 6th round. |
