Former United States’ Marine, Leo, writes:
"We had a candidate who was on the ballot access in 49 states in
2000. He also received 12.5 million dollars of taxpayer money. He
couldn't get into the debates, and no free radio or TV on PBS like
Bush and Gore received. Folks worked hard to obtain signatures in
all 50 states, He did not qualify in Michigan because the Sec. of
State was also Bush campaign manager. Interesting huh?"
Bruce Westcott replies:
Presumably, Leo refers in the above to the 2000 Reform Party, Pat
Buchanan, presidential candidacy. (If I am wrong, Leo, please
correct me. Thank you.)
I believe that in 2008 we will see a policy correction in both the
media and in the debates to allow a viable third party or
independent presidential ticket to be presented to the American
public. I believe that there is, and will continue to surge, a huge
wave of American interest and demand for an alternative candidate (I
do not like the word, alternative, but hope to illustrate my
point) in the 2008 presidential debates.
The problem(s), that we must immediately begin to correct, is
two-fold:
1) Any candidate, by any name representing anything other than
Republican or Democrat, must have ballot access in all 50 states.
2) We must work to insure verifiable and factual voting results.
That is the major impediment for us to overcome. Here it is 2007
and we are still finding and challenging 2004 (presidential)
election results. The reason simply put: Crooks working for
crooks.
This is an intolerable fact of politics in America that has deadly
past, present and future consequences to our nation and very
possibly for our very survival.
We have got to establish a uniform and completely verifiable voting
system in America.
I respectfully (and repeatedly) suggest that we somehow reach out to
the Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Scott McNealys and Larry Ellisons of the
technology world (perhaps MIT or another university would consider
such a patriotic project challenge) to develop and implement a
voting system for America and for all of the world to see and to
emulate our so-called Democracy working in an honest fashion.
This can be done, installed and perfected in time for the 2008
primaries and beyond. It can be done.
The international community (that our failed foreign policies seek
to change) clearly sees that our elections are crooked; how can we
and our leaders expect anything less than international disdain for
our own election hypocrisy?
I have extensive (small) business creation and administrative and
accounting experience. Other than running for president myself, I
would first rather volunteer to be put in charge of administrating
such an important election project.
Send me in. Send us all in. An honest election is all that we
desire. Let the results of an honest election become the voters'
mandate; accept it and move forward with it.
I remain at your service and to the service of our nation.
