Free Event Open to Cancer Survivors

NEVADA CANCER INSTITUTE (NVCI) is hosting a motivational seminar and workshop for cancer survivors on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at its research and care center, One Breakthrough Way (10441 W. Twain Ave., 89135). The free event is open to all cancer survivors, but seating is extremely limited so a RSVP is needed.

Guest speaker Beverly Kirkhart, breast cancer survivor, national inspirational speaker and author, knows what it means to make every day count. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, she overcame the loss of a business, bankruptcy and divorce. She now shares the wisdom of her experience through her How to Turn Setbacks Into Comebacks speaking engagements and her popular Empowering Yourself Through Words© series, which includes strategy-packed sessions from Kirkhart's book, My Healing Companion.

"We are thrilled to have Ms. Kirkhart present her experiences and personal cancer story to Nevadans," said Janine McDonough, NVCI breast health navigator who helped organize the event. "We hope that Ms. Kirkhart's inspirational words and wisdom will help others during their cancer journey."

Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of My Healing Companion. Ms. Kirkhart's presentation will be followed by a book signing and light refreshments.

"It is a privilege to participate in Nevada Cancer Institute's cancer survivor program. I can recall that as a new survivor I was hungry to learn, to be inspired and find hope from one who had not only survived but was thriving after cancer," Ms. Kirkhart said. "Today, I'm honored to share my story of survival and personal insights of how I found the courage to fight for my survival and turn my setbacks into comebacks. In sharing, it is my hope that other survivors can learn how to survive and live their life once again."

Ms. Kirkhart's visit and presentation to cancer survivors is being made possible by Roche Pharmaceuticals.
