NEVADA LABOR COMMISSIONER Michael Tanchek has appointed Keith Sakelhide as deputy labor commissioner, effective June 18. Sakelhide will oversee operations of the Las Vegas office.

Sakelhide, an attorney, is currently the manager of transportation for the state Transportation Services Authority. Sakelhide's other experience includes appellate and dispute resolution manager for the Employers Insurance Company of Nevada Legal Division; and public defender for Riverside County, CA; as well as employment with the Congressional Research Service and U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC.

Sakelhide received a B.A. in government and public administration from John Jay College and a J.D. at Hofstra University School of Law. He a member of the State Bars of Nevada, District of Columbia and Pennsylvania, and admitted to practice in United States District Court.

Nevada's labor commissioner has regulatory authority regarding wage and hour and child labor laws, employee rights, and establishing and enforcing minimum and prevailing wage. The Office of the Labor Commissioner investigates fraudulent employment practices; issues permits to producers of film and stage shows; and licenses and regulates employment agencies and apprenticeship programs.
