GOVERNOR JIM GIBBONS has named Las Vegas community leader and former IBM executive Larry Mosley the next director of Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). Mosley will replace current director Terry Johnson, who will pursue his law degree in August at the Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
"Terry Johnson has distinguished himself and the Department through his leadership. He's leaving DETR a better agency than he found it, and I believe Larry Mosley will continue that tradition," said Governor Gibbons. "Larry is a 'people' person with outstanding organization and management skills proven during his three decades with IBM. He also has the ability to bridge the communications gap between the corporate world and the person looking for a job. I have every confidence that he will continue to advance DETR's mission of preparing Nevadans for the workforce."
Larry Mosley has served as interim director for the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion of the Community College of Southern Nevada for the past year. He has also served as interim director and CEO of the Las Vegas-Clark County Urban League and is co-founder and president emeritus of 100 Black Men of Las Vegas. Before moving to Nevada, Mosley served as a marketing and sales executive for IBM in Los Angeles, California and Washington, D.C., earning numerous awards from the company. Mosley holds a Master of Arts degree in urban studies from Occidental College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from U.C. Davis and has taught history as an associate professor at both San Jose State University and Monterey Peninsula College.
"I am eager to bring my relationship skills to the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation," said Mosley. "I understand the Nevadan who is looking for work, and I understand corporations. Through training and communication, we can help Nevadans get good jobs while providing the skilled workforce companies need. I look forward to enhancing the creativity and teamwork DETR already has so we can better serve Nevadans."
Mosley assumes his new role as director on July 2nd.
