The path may be set for the next ‘great’ Las Vegas showdown after Brit boxer Ricky ‘Hitman’ Hatton defeated Jose Luis Castillo by knockout in the fourth round at the Thomas & Mack Center this past weekend seemingly setting the stage for Hatton to take on Las Vegas local and undefeated champ Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather. While Castillo’s small contingent of loyal Latino boxing fans were greatly outnumbered against the thousands of flag waving, song singing, Hatton cheering Brits who traveled to Las Vegas for the fight, we’re guessing Mayweather would receive more of a hometown advantage should the fight be held locally.

Word on the street is clucking that the new owners of the Hooters Casino are eyeing a second property that would land somewhere near the Nevada/Utah border.
Ten people experienced a close call last weekend at downtown’s Fitzgerald’s Hotel and Casino when the elevator they were riding in began to “descend rapidly”. Luckily, the emergency brakes kept the elevator from free falling, and all passengers were able to walk away relatively injury free.
One popular movie blogger recently issued his ‘Top 5 Sin City Flicks’ and for the most part, seemed to do pretty well. His top five includes: Casino (#1), the re-made Oceans 11 (#2), Go (#3), Swingers (#4) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (#5). Shouldn’t Rain Man be on there simply because it forever renamed any oversized, pimped out hotel room?

Embattled pop star Michael Jackson is currently planning a European tour after he found minimal interest for a headlining show in Las Vegas. It would seem as though Jacko is hoping to revive his career overseas before giving it another shot stateside, the Las Vegas Review Journal quoted several local entertainment executives as saying that Jackson was simply too explosive to book at this time.
Caroline Kennedy recently called Mike Mills, founder and owner of Memphis Championship Barbecue, so he could cater a big party she had over the weekend. Mills was in New York the previous weekend at the Big Apple BBQ Block Party and apparently word spread from there …
We’re not sure where Caesars Palace might find the space, but the property flew in Los Angeles club czar Peter Famulari to discuss several potential projects this past weekend. Famulari is the owner of Boulevard 3, a City of Angels party spot that fuses bottle service-driven nightlife with the feel of an exclusive house party, “it’s like what raving at Madonna’s London estate might be like,” said one partier in the know of Boulevard 3.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has started testing a new potential slogan that would complement the ‘What happens here …’ mantra. If it tests well with focus groups, ‘Your Vegas is showing’ could start rolling out with print and television ads as early as this fall. “It implies that you are living outside of your everyday life,” said Terry Jicinsky, senior vice president of marketing for the LVCVA, “There is an implication it says something about you as an individual.”
We’ve heard so many rumors about what’s coming to the Hard Rock Hotel that we can’t keep up with all of it anymore. Besides, there is only so much space on property, and where are all these things going anyway? The latest transplanted brand alleged to land on property is another NYC hotspot, this time black leather drenched Double Seven. Guess only time will tell…
