ON JUNE 13, 2007, Governor Jim Gibbons signed Assembly Bill 497 into law.

One of the provisions of the law changes the name of the state Transportation Services Authority (TSA) to the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA). The agency has statewide regulatory authority over limousines, tow cars, intrastate household goods movers, tour and travel buses and a variety of other motor carriers.

"Thanks to the support of elected officials and industry representatives, the new name will help eliminate the confusion experienced by many Nevadans and visitors since the creation of the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in 2003," said Transportation Authority Chairman Andy Mackay.

All provisions of AB 497 concerning the authority become effective by October 1, 2007.

Mackay also announced that Senior Financial Analyst Kim Lighthart has been promoted to serve as the applications manager in the agency's Las Vegas office. Lighthart is a Certified Public Accountant and has been employed by the authority for over three years.

Lighthart replaces Keith Sakelhide who was recently appointed as the state's deputy labor commissioner.
