I DON'T KNOW about you, but there are many times that I have fantasized about kissing my favorite movie star as I would watch him on the big screen. I would wonder what it would be like and how lucky the actress in the scene was to have that kissing scene with him. Not only would I ever know, I never thought I would ever meet someone who had that dream come true. Well, guess what? I recently met that truly lucky one and the dream man was Elvis Presley.
Cynthia Pepper co-starred with Elvis in "Kissin Cousins" in 1964. She played Corporal Midge Riley. www.myspace.com/cynthiapepper. Cynthia's father was Jack Culpepper, a vaudeville performer who was previously married to Ginger Rogers before meeting Cynthia's mom, Dawn.
Cynthia had her own TV sitcom "Margie" in 19611962 and appeared on many other TV shows. What a beauty she was and still is. She sat regally in our radio studio, every bit the lady, reminding me of a vision of Princess Grace of Monaco. There is a resemblance too. We talked about our recent meeting while we were both filming the movie "Crazy Girls Undercover" at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas last month. Her story about the kiss made my eyes light up and my heart flutter. I couldn't get enough of her describing the kiss. Alright, I won't keep you in suspense any longer. She said, "think of it as wonderful candy." She purposely did not do the scene right so she could shoot it over again and Elvis said to keep doing the scene over and they shot it about 7 times. His lips were so soft and she had to be in heaven kissing Elvis because he was her idol. She described him as a gentle person and very generous to everyone. She remained friends with him after the movie.
Next month it will be 30 years since his death and Cynthia is invited, along with others who worked with Elvis, to go to Graceland and they will be meeting all the fans there. I visited Graceland in the early '80s and I stood at his gravesite and had a quiet time there.
Cynthia had so many other stories to tell us but we ran out of time so we will have to have her back on the show and have her tell us what she knows about the other stars she co-starred with. I definitely will stay in touch with Cynthia because she is my type of friend.
