NEIL DIAMOND SAID that he is complemented by all the Neil Diamond impersonators in their efforts and dedication, but he is quoted as saying, "My favorite is a young man named Jay White." Mine too. Neil's mother Rose White also gave her approval and I think that a mother's word is the most important and powerful word anyone can give. I recently went to see Jay White's tribute to Neil at the Riviera Hotel and I witnessed a spectacular performance that left me teary eyed listening to him sing all my favorite songs. www.americasdiamondlive.com
What touched my heart the most was "Coming To America" because I thought of my grandparents who came here from Greece in 1924 and Jay said that is also special to so many people to identify with because if it wasn't for one of our ancestors coming to America, we wouldn't be here.
What a remarkable likeness, in looks and sound. He has perfected the moves, the vocals and the mannerisms. His costumes were perfect as is his body, fit and trim. He still plays hockey so that accounts for his physical fitness. Jay told us that Neil recently sent him one of his outfits and he treasures the clothes.
The show is perfection and the audience can close their eyes and picture Neil singing to them. They participate in the show by clapping, singing and standing up and moving to the sound of the music. Jay makes you a part of the show and everyone has big smiles on their faces and some are teary eyed, like I was. This was definitely the next best thing because I thought I was in a Neil Diamond concert.
Jay has been performing as Neil for 25 years with over 8000 shows and has played in five different countries. He was the original cast member to portray a living legend in "Legends In Concert." There are still long lines waiting to get in to see his show and they all line up after the show to talk to Jay and take pictures with him. There are many repeat customers and I definitely will be one of them. I want to close my eyes and dream of the flowers Jay promised to give me when I attend his next show, because I told him that my other favorite song was "You Don't Bring Me Flowers Any More."
Jay announced that next week there will be a special for all the locals to attend his show for $15.00. All you have to do is go to the box office with the announcement in the Neon for your tickets. This is a deal and you must go with your family and friends and have the experience of your life as you watch this fantastic show.
Our other guest on the show was Chris Gardner who impersonates Michael Jackson and he bears a striking resemblance to him. You definitely think it is Michael Jackson when you see him. Chris said when he goes out he has to have bodyguards because mobs form immediately and want to touch him and get close to him.
I found Chris to be a little shy and a little nervous because this was his first radio interview and I assured him that he would have a good time on our show and we were there to make him comfortable and we were fun to be with. Chris is 21 years old and lives in Las Vegas. He started dancing when he was 7 years old and he gave us a sample of the famous "Moon Walk." Heel, toe, heel, toe, he makes it look so easy to do. He also sings like Michael and is so charming and sweet, a son anyone could be proud of. He is an overall entertainer and performs at weddings, private parties and shows. www.myspace.com/snakefoot0721
Jay and Chris sang a song for us and then I asked them to sing Happy Birthday to Marleen Marino, publisher of Vegas Community Online, whose birthday was last week. That was a first, Michael Jackson and Neil Diamond singing happy birthday to Marleen. She deserves it. All of her friends turned out to celebrate and many entertainers were there putting on a great show. Some of my favorites were Country Superstars from "Fitzgeralds" and the drag queens from "Lucky Cheng's" with my favorite lady "Vivian." Happy Birthday Marleen and I can't wait until your birthday next year.
Chris will be leaving next week to go to Branson, MO to audition for "Legends In Concert." Jay wished him luck and had some advice for him.
