For this first week of the return of football, these are my predictions for the winning teams. I don’t do point spreads (math is hard!). These are just a list of the winning teams as I see them as of Wednesday, September 5, 2007. These are for entertainment only.

Are you ready for this? We, the "Mouth of Motown" and I "The Tout" have been challenged by fellow columnist "Mystic Mona" (a girl no less!) to a football handicapping contest. She will need help from more than Tarot Cards or the Sun or Moon in the Seventh House to out-predict two of the best handicappers on this planet (or any other planet for that matter). Without going very far out on the proverbial limb, I will say this, (and I speak for Mouth as well), "if, by season's end Mona has out-picked us, we will get a square job!"

Anyway here goes.... remember these are for entertainment only, (and I don't mean your bookie's entertainment!) and are "straight up" winners, no points or juice. My top three picks are, (in no particular order and without the "star system" like last year.

Raiders over the Lions, anyone can pick the team that is a touchdown or more favorite to win. I understand the Lions wanted to reschedule the University of Michigan in place of the Raiders, but it was too late in the season! Oakland's RB Jordon should run roughshod over a poor Lion defense.

Philadelphia over Green Bay, Brett Farve keeps hanging on, but he and the rest of the pack offense will have trouble hanging on to the ball Sunday.

The Chargers over the Bears, the best overall team in the NFL should make fairly easy work of the men from Chi town". Keep in mind this isn't the NFC North or Soldier's Field...

The remaining fearless forecasts as of press time Thursday morning, (the  Friday Flyer as the name implies comes out Friday!) I choose (or chose) the Super Bowl champs Colts over the Saints. While the Saints were the most improved team in the NFL last year, the champs were perfect at home and for the 2000s the reigning Superbowl Champ has won every week one game the following season.

Jacksonville/Tennessee    The sophomore jinx rears its ugly head as Vince Young will learn that every Sunday isn't Hanukkah.

S.Diego/Da Bears     I made every effort to avoid agreeing with "The Tout" but this one just seems like "cake". Granted the 'Bolts have to overcome Norv Turner (new coach) but hopefully he will delegate mucho to the assistants. I see this as non-competitive unless Mr. Hester returns 2 or 3 for touchdowns.

Cinci/Baltimore      The smart money seems to be favoring the Ravens but I like the Bengals now that the "criminal element" is off the field. Carson Palmer will put points on the board and defensive deficiencies aside, I don't see the Ravens putting up enough points to get the job done.

I'd give you the rest of my winners, but Marleen doesn't pay me enough!!

Please notice the logo below for G&J update. This is simply the best line service to be had as I will explain in detail in next week's flyer. Please feel free to give Sonny or Gino a call if you have any questions about the service, they couldn't be more helpful.
