As Governor Gibbons indicated yesterday [September 20, 2007] in his speech, he is hosting an Economic Summit on Housing Stability on Thursday, October 4, 2007 to address the mortgage crisis in Nevada. He is inviting decision makers from the top five lending institutions and recognized leaders from the industry in Nevada to participate in rapidly developing a plan to address this problem.

“Since the Governor called for that Summit, his office and our office have received hundreds of calls from people who want to know details about the program,” said Mendy Elliott, Director of the Department of Business and Industry. “I want to assure those who are in need of assistance that the Summit will result in positive actions. The exact nature of the program and details concerning available help, however, will be determined during and after that Summit.”

Elliott noted that the Summit will take place in less that two weeks, “The Governor is proceeding rapidly to find a solution and will release program details as soon as they are available.”
