As I begin my two-week after Halloween diet (five mini candy bars for breakfast, five mini candy bars for lunch and then a sensible dinner), I contemplate what will probably be the most anticipated game thus far…the Colts vs. the Patriots!

My Bears disappointed me on my three pick last week, so I’ve lost faith in any kind of challenge from them for the playoffs. The most gratifying of my three-pick choice was that the Packers DID win over the Broncos. I KNEW when the Pack won the coin toss, that my Brett would do something fabulous (he’s always “my” Brett when he does something fabulous).

The Steelers over the Ravens (they ARE at home)

The Packers over The Chiefs (because it's Brett)

Patriots over the Colts (I like lobster and clam chowder- did Indianapolis ever contribute to the taste buds?)

Sunday’s Games

Jets over Redskins
Packers over Chiefs
Buccaneers over Cardinals
Titans over Panthers
49ers over Falcons (it’s really time!)
Jaguars over Saints
Lions over Broncos
                  Bills over Bengals  (sorry Jim)
Chargers over Vikings
Seahawks over Browns
Patriots over Colts
Texans over Raiders
Cowboys over Eagles

Casey's PICKS

I love a well oiled machine.  As a die hard 49er fan, I still look back fondly on the years when we dominated the league.  I even respected our hated rival, the Dallas Cowboys, for their run in the '90's, and let's not forget the Steelers in the '70's.  That was magic in motion too.

But nothing has been like the 2007 New England Patriots.  They could be the best team ever! (Sorry Bears fans, 1985 was great, but this is better!)  The Pats could actually run the table and not lose until sometime next season.  That is, if everyone, especially all-world quarterback Tom Brady, stays healthy.  The Pats should have no trouble against the Colts, who only hope they lose by 4-5 points.   The books are trying to keep it interesting.  They're just not used to setting spreads for steamrollers.

I am, however, dismayed by two things.

#1.  The reason for the season that resembles Sherman's March To The Sea.  They were caught cheating,  videotaping the other team's (Jets) defensive coaches.  I wish they hadn't cheated, but I wonder if they're just the ones who got caught.  Pity the poor Jets when they meet the Pats again.

#2.  Belichick & Company are obviously running up the scores to send the message that they do deserve their three Super Bowl wins and the videotaping of whoever really didn't play a role in their impressive run of victories in the last few years.  Damn it Bill, you're wiping out the sportsmanship I've always admired about the league.  Scoring in the final minutes when victory is already assured is nothing more than rubbing the opponent's nose in it and that's not right.
It's only one team this year, but we know they'll all follow suit in the years to come.

I love watching the Patriots and their amazing offense and defense, but the cheap shots are going to start happening and the NFL will never be the same.

End of rant, thanks for the forum.

Whew! Another close call vs. Casey and the Mystic one….. The Eagles and the Saints helped me edge Casey by one and Mystic by two SU. I’m sure Casey chose the 49ers over the Saints with his heart…

The Niners need to schedule San Francisco State or bring, out of retirement, Montana and Rice in order to possibly win another game this season…

Mystic might want to think about adding an extra Joker/Fool to her Tarot deck!

Break out your “unabridged”, the mouth is back this week…

Team vs. team through week 8 “Two bit – Four bit” stand at 81-39 = 67.5% and the “Cockles” are 97-73 = 57%.

We picked up a little money for the tricker–treaters this week, as my star picks went 4-0 plus 12½ Stars…. for the season the numbers read 22-13-4 = 64% plus 19½ Stars.

Below find my SU and Star picks,

This Sunday marks an unprecedented and (in my opinion) never to be seen again event in the NFL. The defending Super Bowl champions who are currently undefeated are at home and a significant underdog. I have to admit its one of the most amazing things I can remember in too many years of following sports. I'm not sure I buy into the pundits deeming the Patriots the greatest team of all time; its a bit early to make that assessment. However they command enough respect to prevent me from betting the Colts who in my youth would have stood out as an obvious "tapout special". I prefer to watch and enjoy. I recommend you do the same.

Cowboys/Eagles   Like the "Boys" off the bye week. Rested, with a financially secure Tony Romo and lets face it, the better team.

Chargers/Vikings    "Bolts" seem to have their act together and their woeful start should prevent them from taking the Vikes too lightly. Little difference who plays QB for Minnesota it will be a long day for the home fans.

Chiefs/Packers   Big homefield edge, Pack off short week and their ordinary rushing defense will be tested by L.J. A rather weak vote for the Chiefs

Nice that almost all the favorites won last week so my colleagues could pad their winning percentages and soothe their undoubtedly bruised egos. I really am happy for them!!
