It’s a darn good thing that I wasn’t gloating last week because the fates made me humble about my picks this past week. For the record, I’ll never use that Magic Eight Ball again! Only two of my three picks were correct and frankly the Steelers BARELY beat the Browns.

I also recognize and am quite aware that The Tout did choose more winning teams on his overall picks than the fabulous Casey or myself. But there were many upsets last week (Damn free-will!), including that that Chargers really DID beat the Colts. (Damn field goals!)

The best thing about last week was that I got nifty little golden stars at the bottom of my column and the Packers went Nordic on the Vikings.

The season is emerging as 'the time that tries men's souls'. What in the (world) is happening to the old reliables? Adam Vinatieri misses a chip shot and the Chargers beat the Colts? ( Oh.. the humanity!!!!) And the ultimate cure for the Tout's insomnia: The Raiders vs. Da Bears. Who the hell scheduled that snoozer? I fell asleep picking that one, I hope I got it right. (Probably not)

Gotta' love the Pack, because Favre is reminding us that senior citizens still have a place in society and I'm going out on a limb and saying the Fish will clip the Eagles wings.

Memo to Patriots: remember Dan Reeves' 1980's deodorant commercial "Never take a losin' team lightly". Da Bills aren't too bad.

49ers again? Yeah, I know.. worst game of the week. Two losers with one and two wins. The problem is, they're only a couple games out of the division lead. Look for this one to go into undertime.

Boy I wish I could handicap football like Casey and the “Mouth” express themselves with the written word. (Don’t tell the “Mouth” that I wrote this!) Come to think of it, lately I wish I could handicap football like the “Mouth” and Casey too. And I wish I was as humble and logical as Mystic. (She’s been picking um’ pretty good lately in comparison to this stiff-reporter-football handicapper.) I’m really a college hoops, poker and ponies man in “real life.” I only fell into this because my relationship with the “Boss.” Enough of the pride swallowing… let’s trudge on.

A rare chip-shot field goal missed in the waning moments of Sunday night’s San Diego/Indy game that almost certainly would have given the Colts a come from behind victory, what with no time outs for the Chargers and less than two minutes remaining, prevented the “Mouth’ from taking the 0 and 3 collar SU this past week. As it is, going 1 and 2 SU marked the second time “Motown” has gone 1 and 2 in three weeks, leading some to believe he is only human after all, although there are a few of us that doubt even that proves he is human! I can’t take anymore 1 and 2s from my mentor and more importantly my “two bit – four bit” teammate.

We just can’t let a girl and some guy with charm, grace and obvious intelligence (none of which make for a good sports handicapper, especially the intelligence part!) prevail over two hard-core “sports know-it-alls”….

I put a little distance between yours truly and Mystic and Casey, going 9 and 5 SU, to the Mystic’s ones 6 and 8 and Casey’s 5 and 9. For the season:
