The Lions SightFirst Foundation of Southern Nevada is a locally-based public charity dedicated to saving the sight of the disadvantaged in the community, by providing free vision screenings and follow-up eye care. It also accepts referrals from other non-profit and governmental organizations, as well as the Clark County School District.
According to Dr. David Yesnick, Foundation trustee and spokesperson,
"Thanks to our partnerships with local optometrists, ophthalmologists
and other eye care professionals, we can provide these services totally
free-of-charge to persons who have no insurance and no means to pay for
eye care." He added, "The Foundation is totally funded by the Lions
Clubs of Southern Nevada, and we are especially proud to be able to

Dr. Peter W. DeBry is the latest addition to the Foundation's list of volunteer ophthalmologists. An associate at the Wellish Vision Institute, located at 2110 East Flamingo, Dr. DeBry specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He sees patients for ophthalmologic examinations referred to him by the Foundation every third Saturday of the month. He performs his first surgery on behalf of the Foundation on the 10th of this month.
Born in Salt Lake City, Dr. DeBry completed his medical degree at the University of Utah in 1996, where he was honored with induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, reserved for the top physicians in each graduating class.
After spending three years of residency in Madison, Wisconsin where he was chief resident and coordinator of resident training, he was selected together with only three other doctors in the U.S. to attend one of the country’s top fellowships in eye surgery techniques at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. He was afforded the opportunity to work with top doctors learning the most up-to-date surgical techniques. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he taught these techniques to new eye surgeons as Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Missouri.
Dr. DeBry relocated to Las Vegas in 2003 where he currently holds practice in glaucoma, cataract, and refractive lens surgery at the Wellish Vision Institute. Dr. DeBry was invited to be among the first few groups of eye surgeons in the United States to train in the surgical techniques of Verisyse and Staar ICL Lens implantation. He is certified for implantation of ReSTOR, ReZoom, and Crystalens as options for vision enhancement with cataract surgery. He has presented research at local and national meetings and has published articles in national ophthalmology journals.
Dr. DeBry explained his association with the Lions SightFirst Foundation. “I was with Lions right after training and moved to Kansas for my first job. I believe the Lions have an excellent focus on vision and eye care and I wanted to be a part of that.” He added, "There is a great need for willing people to give of their time in service of others less fortunate than themselves. I want to set that example by action.”
