Balance is what we are all looking for, isn't it? A balanced bank account, balanced relationships, balance between work and play. Balance.

But most of us are imbalanced, aren't we? We take too much or give too little; we pig out for weeks, months, years on end and then we do these crash diets expecting to be detoxed on the spot; we're cold and unemotional one minute, open and vulnerable the next. It's no wonder the world is so out of whack. In case you haven't learned this kabbalistic teaching yet, let me be the first to tell you: humanity is the center of the universe. As we act, so the world reacts.

Today, seek balance. Discover where you have swung too far to one side of the behavioral spectrum. Maybe you've been especially down and shut in lately, so find ways to pick yourself up and get out there with the people. Perhaps you've been everyone's doormat, so practice receiving for a change. Or maybe you're just perfect, so, hey, let me know your secret.

As important as it is to be generous and compassionate with others, it is equally important to be generous and compassionate with ourselves. We are all familiar with the phrase, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." But if our cup is empty, what do we have to share?

Be patient with yourself today. Counter the negative chatter in your head with soothing, uplifting words. Be an advocate for yourself — because if you don't take care of yourself, who will? As a great sage once wrote, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me?"

We flip the Light on in our lives when we identify, uproot, and transform our reactive, negative characteristics. It is the degree of change in our nature that determines the measure of our fulfillment. It is the transformation from reactive to proactive that reveals spiritual Light.

Today, review what you perceive to be your negative characteristics. How could you utilize them to reveal more Light in your life?

There is a wonderful story about a man who leaves the world and arrives at the pearly gates, where he is given a preview of heaven and hell. Both scenarios have the exact same setting: people sitting around a huge pot of stew, each holding a wooden spoon with a very long handle. In hell, he sees emaciated people trying to feed themselves, but try as they might, they're not able to get the food into their mouths using the cumbersome spoons.

In heaven, on the other hand, the people look healthy, with nice, rosy complexions. The difference is that in heaven, they're feeding each other using their long spoons. They're sharing, because they understand that the only way they can eat, have the real fulfillment and sustenance that they need, is by taking care of one another.

What is hell? Hell is not having the ability to share with others.

Which scenario will you choose today?

Let's say you are someone who goes to the gym. You start out lifting five pound weights and you can barely get them above your head. You work at it, you lose a little fat, and soon you're starting to feel great as you pump that dumbbell. A few weeks go by, and now you're not getting the same rush you had at the beginning.

It's time to pick up a bigger weight.

If you are reading this email, than you are someone who is constantly trying to create a better version of yourself. But is it possible that the five pound weight you've been benching the last couple of months isn't challenging you any more? Perhaps you have been doing the same sharing, or have even stopped altogether? If that's the case, than you are probably also not feeling the same excitement you had when you first starting pursuing the kabbalistic path.

In Kabbalah, you need to be constantly upgrading your life.

Today, challenge yourself to change how, why and when you share. Share in situations that are unfamiliar, with people you have never met. Add on some more weight. Sweat a little. Get pumped!
