more
Toni Braxton shows have been
canceled as she recuperates following her
hospitalization with chest pain, the Associated
Press reported. "We're going to go ahead and
cancel her shows tonight and for the rest of the
week,"
Flamingo Las
Vegas hotel-casino and Harrah's Entertainment
Inc. spokeswoman Deanna Pettit

Braxton has

KATIE REES CONSIDERING SUING LVPD FOR
POLICE BRUTALITY
Dethroned
Nevada beauty queen Katie Rees
is considering suing the Las Vegas Police Department in federal court for
excessive force and for violating her civil
rights during a February traffic stop, her
attorney confirmed today in an exclusive
interview with
www.thevegaseye.com “We’ll
probably make our final decision on this in the
next 30 days, but the action taken by these two
officers against my client was unconscionable,”
said
local attorney Mike Cristalli.
“They took a young, 105-pound, girl and beat her
up. She suffered a fractured tooth and multiple
contusions. It was traumatic to have that happen
and then have her mug shot floated all over the
newspapers.” If the lawsuit goes forward it will
be filed against the department and individually
against the two officers involved, Cristalli
said. Cristalli said during the next 30 days, he
and his client will be
exploring
if the officers involved in the incident have a
history of violence or if a departmental pattern
of abuse can be established.
Rees was arrested Feb. 6 after she was accused
of assaulting a police officer during a 3 a.m.
traffic stop. This misdemeanor criminal
resisting arrest charge was formally dropped
today in exchange for her pleading “no contest”
to speeding, operating a motor vehicle without
proof of insurance and driving with an expired
registration, a
suspended license and suspended registration.
Rees also agreed to pay up to $1,312 in fines.
Had it not been dropped, the
resisting arrest charge could have gotten Rees
up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine had
she been convicted. However, fighting the police
assault charge was a no-brainer, the attorney
said. “We would not budge on that issue,”
Cristalli said. “These officers acted unlawfully
and excessively. Normal people get a traffic
citation all the time and don’t get attacked in
the process.” Rees was stripped of her Miss
Nevada USA crown by in December 2006 with the
approval of
pageant co-owner Donald Trump
after several photographs of her exposing
herself, kissing and licking other women and
simulating sex acts were made public.
Ironically, Trump recently discussed plans to
cast
Ashley Alexander Dupre – the
courtesan who brought down
New York’s
governor Eliot Spitzer in a sex scandal
– in a new TV reality show called
"Lady or the
Tramp.
