What is a problem, really? A problem is only a "problem"
because we think it is. It's all how we look at it. We can also appreciate that
challenges are from the Light. Without them, maybe we wouldn't have become
spiritual. We want to always be thankful for difficulties because of where they
bring us. For most people, they bring us to a place of squeezing — the extra
mile.
While we rarely see it in the moment, the pain is
always a blessing, allowing us to reveal Light for ourselves and others.
Today, accept your garbage, embrace it, and know that
looking at the uglier parts of your life is where you'll find the biggest
blessings.
One of the major problems of the world is we sometimes get
so carried away in our own spiritual systems that we forget that other people
have their set of laws too.
We get caught up in the routine part of our
practice and forget the heart part.
If we want to save this world — and it certainly needs
saving — then we must constantly be directing our thoughts towards compassion
and tolerance for others. Only when you, me and all of us doing the work learn
this lesson [and live it in our daily lives] will this world begin to spin in a
different direction.
Be tolerant today. Allow others to have their opinions,
no matter how wrong they may seem. Release the need to change people, to sway
them to your way of thinking. Focus on love - it always does the trick.
In other words, when in doubt, hug it out. OK, maybe
that last line was a little cheesy, but I hope you get the point.
You may have read the biblical story of Moses' encounter
with the burning bush. One day while wandering in the desert, he hears God
calling to him from a burning bush, telling him to free the Israelites from
Egyptian slavery. The rest is history.
Here's an interesting fact: the kabbalists say that
initially, Moses did not hear God's voice. He actually heard the voice of his
own father calling him. Why? He needed to hear a voice that was friendly and
familiar in order to draw him closer. He would have been too afraid if he knew
who was really calling upon him.
Just as God understood what Moses needed to hear (and
the voice he needed to hear it in) God knows what we need. Our Creator meets us
where we are on our journey, making sure that the events and people in our lives
are tailor-made for our spiritual growth.
Remember this today when you are wondering why you must
go through one difficult situation or another.
It's a law of the universe that judgment attracts judgment.
If that's the frame of mind we consciously choose to be in, then that's what
we'll create for ourselves.
What we really want to do is inject compassion, or what
the Kabbalists call mercy, into every situation.
Does this mean we're supposed to roll over and let
people treat us like garbage? Of course not. What it means is that when someone
treats us badly, whether it is an accident or not, we ask why it's in our movie.
Why is it happening to us, not from the standpoint of a victim, but rather so we
can learn.
Today, go for the mercy rather than the judgment. The
Light will show you the same in return.
When a person makes a mistake in judgment - hurts, cheats,
lies, steals, etc - the negative action takes but a few seconds or minutes. The
guilt however, the self-deprication and bad memories can last a lifetime. And
while it's vital to the correction process to feel pain about our misdeeds, it
is just as vital that we move on. Otherwise it's like days, weeks, months or
years of disconnection from our source.
Today, think about a past event that you're still
berating yourself over. Imagine your life not without that event, but without
the memory of that event. How would it change your story?
There is a spiritual law that dictates whoever cares about
others is cared about by the Creator. And if we know that we are nothing without
the care of the Light, then it is impossible not to care about others.
If we spend our entire lives dealing with ourselves
alone, then we won't have even the slightest chance of making it, not unlike a
snowflake in Hell.
Today, assess how much time you spend helping yourself
alone versus time spent genuinely reaching out and helping others.
How much time do you spend arguing about who is right and
who is wrong?
As spiritual people wanting to connect to the most
fulfillment possible, we always have to step back and examine our need to be
right. Those pauses in the midst of arguments can save us years of tears.
Today, when you are in the midst of disagreeing with
someone, ask yourself if it's worth creating space between you and the other,
just to be right. It's important to speak up and express your feelings, but it's
equally important to listen to other person's feelings. Forget about being
right. Being open to another's perspective is the right way. That's what creates
an opening for the Light, and it's the best way to resolve any argument.
Or said another way, there are three sides to every
story: your side, the other person's side, and the Light's side.
