Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons is very happy with the work of
the Nevada Legislature. “I am working to keep Nevadans in their
jobs and in their homes,” Gibbons said, “and today’s Special
Session results mean we will be able to continue to give our
citizens the services they expect and deserve.”
Legislators approved a lengthy list of legal changes and
money movements to keep state government functioning in the face
of the present economic crisis. The cuts and changes approved
today should keep state government functioning until the end of
the fiscal year in June 2009. The actions taken by the
Legislature today are not expected to impact existing government
services.
“Today was the result of several weeks of work across party
lines to preserve the state’s financial health through the end
of the fiscal year in June 2009,” Gibbons said.
“Nevada families are tightening their belts, Nevada
businesses are tightening their belts, and Nevada’s government
is doing the same thing,” Gibbons said. “Raising taxes on those
families and those businesses is just not right in these harsh
economic times.”
