More To Las Vegas than Sin City

There has been a lot of excitement over the years in the Silver State. The city of Las Vegas has hosted major conventions, the NBA All-Star game, along with an NBA playoff game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trailblazers, music award shows, world championship boxing matches, and even the jump performed by the late Evil Knieval. And now as we welcome in the new year, 2008, the Silver State branches off into a new realm; the presidential caucus. No more will Nevada and even more so, Las Vegas, just be considered ‘Sin City.’

Our state has taken the initiative by holding the Democrat and Republican Caucus’ on January 19, 2008. We will have a major say in who will win the primary presidential election. That means that our voce (voice) will be heard and should be represented by whoever ends up seated in the Oval Office come the November general election.

So remember to take part in this political process. The caucus, though different than the normal button pushing ballot is something we should all take seriously. It is truly an exciting time for our wonderful state that again is the fastest growing in the nation.

If you have never taken part in the political process and you are of age, then you must participate in the 2008 vote. Make it a New Year’s resolution if you must. (I made a New Year’s resolution when I was 13, never to make another New Year’s resolution… and I’ve stuck to it.)

Remember it isn’t just the next four years that matters, because whoever becomes President of the United States will be implementing policy that will lend itself decades into the future. When the most important office in the free world is left open, the person who fills the spot has to live with many decisions that have been made by his or her predecessor.

I cannot say it enough. If you are a true American then act upon what your forefather’s created when signing the Declaration of Independence. No matter what your political affiliation is, you have the right and responsibility to use it. Don’t waste what people have died for in so many wars. We are free to pursue a life of Liberty and Justice for all.

Good luck Las Vegas and America, and may all of you have a prosperous new year.
