For all those Brooklyn Lafayette High School Alumni (there are almost 15,000 registered) the school is in the closing process. Built in 1939 on swamp it was a prototype for a few other schools. Built to hold 4000 students it is being replaced with 4 other smaller Magnet Schools. To me this was a great school for an urban neighborhood. Now unrest and riots has taken its toll.
Over the years I always thought I had a great sense of humor and I've been writing comedy for years and only performing with friends. A couple of weeks ago my friend Johnny Jay was roasted on his 67 birthday. Johnny is in his own right a top musician who has played with many of the top bands during his musical career and is a top comedic talent. He has been performing here in Las Vegas for over 30 years. He also had his own band and performed at most of the Las Vegas Hotels and private organizations. Many times we would have a one on one joke telling sessions usually at his recording studio and home. Well I decided I wanted to be a roaster at his party. For weeks before when I was driving, I would rehearse my routine. Well needless to say I was slightly nervous, but I had the crowd of almost 200 in a very receptive mood and was given a nice hand. Afterwards many people came to me and told me how much they liked my performance including Johnny and his new and lovely wife.
This to me was a big confidence builder as for 50 years I wanted to perform. So, I say to you my friends I am ready to do my stuff for free for any fundraiser party, senior groups or whatever. I have loads of original material. I don't use foul language, but some of my stuff is slightly off-colored for adults. I probably could do about less than a ½ hour for older children.
With reference to my article about my lady's grandson, he is going to be discharged and entering college. This is a happy note.
For some years I have tried to tell this story to reporters on major newspapers magazines and to government officials, but with no response. Back about 6 months to a year before the bird flu epidemic, I was introduced to a Cuban family that had recently came here on a raft of a sort. When he was told that I was a reporter, he told me a very disturbing story. He had worked in a factory laboratory where birds were being injected with a killer virus and the let out into the trade winds. Hence the beginning of the bird flu originated by Castro. You may believe this or not but by seeing and talking to this man, I believe it. This is just another situation that our government is not looking into. If this can happen for birds, what can be next?
Soon available for private parties and functions will be the compound that Siegfried and Roy had been living at. They just celebrated with a big party for their new multi-million house on another of their properties in North Las Vegas. While Roy is seemingly about, he is help by others and don't believe in those rumors that they will return to the stage.
I believe that there are almost as many thieves working at the post office as there our in some of our prisons. Over the past few years I had many packages disappear. The latest was well before Christmas when I sent in a large manila envelope 3 books with know letter or any thing else to a friend of mine. This envelope was tightly taped. He received one book in a post office envelope. These books were only worth 99 cents each, and it cost me $5.38 to mail. Boy, that's some petty thievery and very disturbing.
Sam's
Town is my general hangout for sports betting (their new Sports Book is a
terrific place) dining, going to the movies, and gambling. By the Sports Book is
the new fast food
concession.
What I can't understand is why they serve a hot, hot dog on a cold bun. Even
Nathan's in Coney Island where I was a regular and still am, when I go to New
York that sells hot
dogs at a tremendous speed serve their hot dogs on warm buns. Twice this
happened to me, so I sent an e-mail each time to the powers to be. The first
time I received a nice letter, but nothing changed for the second time I had a
hot dog there. I didn't receive any sort of communication from them, as they are
probably to busy with that horrible merger deal. What is so difficult to correct
this situation? Raise the heat level or replace the bun warmer or teach
the behind the counter people
on how to warm the bun on the grill. This all might seem petty to some, but do
you like eating supposing hot foods cold? I'm an experienced concessionaire and
would gladly teach them.
As usual Sam's Town's VIP New Years party was well done. Most of the food presentations were top grade. My only comments were the Scalloped potatoes were hard and a knife was needed to cut them. To me they were undercooked. The Stuffed Sea Food Ravioli stuck together and that was not tasty. Service was fine and music was great. Hope the merger doesn't change this part of the operation. Others, including employees also made these comments.
I have a restaurant background and for many years I have wanted to build a new type of restaurant that never was done before. My last ventured at this resulted that within a few days people approached me for franchising. Here in Las Vegas when parents want to have a birthday party for their kids, either it's pizza, bowling parties or having big plastic air filled shapes and franks and hamburgers. My idea is a place for kid parties, plus a family style restaurant. My idea will bring many repeated diners to the restaurant and many kid parties. Now what I need is investors to whom I will set up a meeting and they will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement. This is not a cheap deal, but I see franchising in the future. Interested persons can contact via this web site.
Since I've been in Las Vegas now 15 years I underwent over a dozen medical procedures including 8 in the past three years of which on I was death doors 3 times. The medical and dental services here on some basis is just okay, other times it is like being in HELL. While I can say I could recommend very few physicians for an internist I recommend without hesitation Dr. Pablo U. Joya. He is a compassionate, understanding and very knowledgeable. There are 2 Doctors of the same name, but he is located on N. Buffalo Dr.. For an appointment call 386-6167. Just say you've seen it on a web site.
Out there in the city are many seniors like us that are incapable of getting around, doing errands, getting to the doctors and other situations that help is needed. I am suggesting to Give Catholic Charities a call and receive paid training and become a Senior Companion.
