While I serve as the Senate Majority Leader, my first responsibility lies with the people of Nevada. For 25 years, I've represented our state in Congress. Now, as Majority Leader, I am in an even better position than ever to deliver meaningful results for Nevada.
For example, this year we drastically cut funding for the proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain and turned up the heat on the project by holding committee hearings on the licensing process. The dump is a dying beast and I am confident our work in the Senate will help ensure that it will never be built.
We also secured more than $93 million for Nevada military projects and more than $340 million for the Southern Nevada Veterans Hospital to ensure our nation's heroes have access to the highest quality health care. I am also working to protect our outdoors and create thousands of jobs by opposing the construction of dirty coal plants in our state and making Nevada the leader in renewable energy.
In addition, the Democratic Congress passed legislation making college more affordable; cleaned up Washington by passing the most sweeping ethics and lobbying reform in history; and we continue our work to make Nevada safer by bringing a responsible end to the Iraq war so we can fight a more effective war on terror.
While Congress has passed important legislation this year, we could have accomplished even more with a Democratic president. The American people want more from Congress, and so do I.

I worked hard to make Nevada an early caucus state because we need a president who understands our unique issues and will work with me to address them. Important issues, like Yucca, water, public lands, and more. But to make the caucus work for Nevada, everyone has to participate. Caucusing is fun, easy and exciting. In the mean time I will continue working hard with my colleagues in Congress to deliver results that mean something to Nevada's working families.
