The ancient wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us that there are specific energies that influence us during each day, week, and month.  Below Yehuda Berg, best-selling author and co-director of The Kabbalah Centre, exposes those areas where most of us fall, and explains how the energy of the week can give us the support we need to transform. If God is infinite, and includes infinite solutions to our problems, couldn't God also come up with the solution to the ultimate paradox of existence?  How do we experience infinite pleasure without having to experience infinite pain?

The good news is, God solved the paradox.

Did you ever watch a Hollywood action movie and see the star jumping off a train? In most cases, is it the actor flinging him or herself off the train?  No.  It's the stunt double that absorbs the pain.

God created something to take the pain for us, too. You may be familiar with it.  It's called your ego.

Either your soul can experience pain or the ego can experience it. Either your soul can experience profound sadness, or you can let the ego do its job and experience it.

Yes, the ego came here to take your pain.  Every time you recognize the ego, you can appreciate and earn the fulfillment.  All you need to do is take the momentary pain of saying, "Wait, it's not me.  It's the ego."

But God set it up so that the process is difficult. If the ego just took it, you wouldn't earn it, and you wouldn't awaken the desire.

This is why my father and teacher Rav Berg calls the prayer room "the war room." We came to wage war on the ego. One path leads to religiosity, the other path is a bloody war against the ego, letting it take our pain and suffering.

The war is learning how to recognize the ego.

Rav Ashlag, the founder of The Kabbalah Centre, says there is only one thing we can do to defeat our ego - recognize it. The moment you see it, the Light comes in and sucks it out of you.  When we give up our ego completely, when we achieve the level where we can do restriction, true restriction, true resistance, true letting go of the ego 100%, that's immortality, in all parts of our life.

This week, recognize everything about you that is opposite of the Light, and connect it to your ego.  Whatever hurts you, whatever ticks you off, whatever saddens you, whatever insults you, whatever worries you, whatever frightens you, know that it's simply your stunt double doing its job.
