How time flies, it was 1983 or ’84, and I was sitting on the lawn in the outfield of the new Cashman Field for the opening day of the new Las Vegas Stars. For the first time, Las Vegas had a beautiful baseball stadium and a triple “A” baseball team. It was a wonderful day, and I will always remember it.
Last Monday was a great day, my buddy Howie and I went to the ball game. But isn’t any day at the ballgame a great day? The Las Vegas Stars are now called The Las Vegas 51’s, but they are soon to be called something else, but they haven’t announced the team’s new name. Doesn’t matter, they’re a good team, and they’re part of the LA Dodgers organization, and growing up in LA, I Love the Dodgers.
I was at the game because The Boss asked me to cover Bette Midler’s showgirls, pre game show. Not a bad gig, thanks, Boss. First we had the Caesar Salad Girls, these are the dancers in Bette’s show, they threw out “The First Balls”. Then their singers from Bette’s show sang our national anthem.
We came into the stadium along with the girls from an underground passage, past the player’s locker room, and up on to the field, what a thrill.
Like I said, any day is a great day at the ball game, and Cashman Field is a great ballpark, and the prices are right. Check out my video to see how much fun we had, thanks again Boss.
