July is Culinary Arts Month. Culinary art is the art of cooking. The word "culinary" is defined as something related to, or connected with, cooking or kitchens. A culinarian is a person working in the culinary arts. A culinarian working in restaurants is commonly known as a cook or a chef. Culinary artists are responsible for skillfully preparing meals that are as pleasing to the palate as to the eye. Increasingly they are required to have a knowledge of the science of food and an understanding of diet and nutrition. They work primarily in restaurants, fast food Chain store franchises, delicatessens, hospitals and other institutions and corporations. Kitchen conditions vary depending on the type of business, restaurant, nursing home etc. Culinary Arts are many things. Don't forget this weeks' Art Institute of Las Vegas' column HERE

Adopt an Airman Event

The Silverton Casino Lodge teams up with Hot 97.5 FM and the city of Las Vegas to encourage local families to meet and "adopt" an airman from the 820th RED HORSE Squadron before they deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar in August. On Saturday, July 19, 2008 between 5 - 8 p.m. at the Silverton Casino Lodge parking lot.   Prior to the event, each airman will fill out a card with a brief self-description.  Each family wishing to adopt someone will also fill out a card as they enter the event and will be randomly paired with an airman.  Once deployed, families can show their appreciation and support by sending care packages and letters to their adopted airmen.  Adopt an Airman will also feature raffle drawings, food, prizes, giveaways, face painting, costume characters, jumpy-houses and more. While admission to Adopt an Airman is free to the public, a donation is suggested.  Proceeds will benefit the Speedway Children's Charities.

VCO Welcomes Our Newest Columnist

T.A.R.G.E.T

T.A.R.G.E.T stands for "Teens At Risk Get Educated Today" and was designed to bridge the communication gap between adults and youth in a way that no other program today does. In today’s society all teens are at risk of making bad choices and or being affected by the choices of their peer’s regardless of their social, economical, and demographical standing. The program was created by Anthony and Brandon Gallion, twin brothers who at age 16 gained national media attention during the summer of 2003 from the story of the 311 boyz, a teen “party crew” in Las Vegas, Nevada...
