Vanity ©

By: George Puccini

Vanity is oft expressed in different ways -
A telling smirk, a clever foreign phrase, -
A word that's turned in wry disdain...

Petty thoughts expressed in brazen tongue
Weaving ego-massaging words, best left unsung,
Yet playing its self-romance ever so vain

Callously suffering those touched by this self-homage;
For they cannot escape, nay, nor even dodge,
This vapid, empty drizzle from a self-dazzled mind.

So this vanity that shows itself remains unchecked,
Never understanding the relationship now wrecked,
Since vain eyes cannot see the rifts left behind...
