With the celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day on March 17, it is fitting to pay homage to an Irishman named Steve McFadden who built a pub named McFadden’s near Times Square on 42nd and 2^nd in 1977. McFadden’s has since grown to 11 locations across the country, including Boston; Pittsburgh; Chicago; Columbus; Washington, D.C.; Nashville; Worcester; and Philadelphia. McFadden’s is now in Las Vegas at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino replacing the Rio’s former Irish-themed pub, the Tilted Kilt.  McFadden’s is a 7,000-square-foot-plus tavern with two rooms (including a 150-person private party room with its own island bar), nearly 20 high-definition plasma TVs, a dance floor and a breathtakingly long 100-foot mahogany bar perfect for dancing on when not dining.

 

 

Along with a full bar featuring favorite draught beers and 90-ounce fishbowl cocktails, menu items include McFadden’s Almost Famous Boneless Buffalo Wings, Irish Stew, Fish and Chips and Shepherd’s Pie topped with whipped potatoes from Chef Brian Rathbun’s kitchen.  McFadden’s servers are “Lucky Charms” and “Ministers of Hospitality” who bring food and drink and make certain everyone has fun, whether they’re there to watch the game, party with the dueling pianos and DJ Soup Can, or enjoy Irish and American fare.  McFadden’s is meant to be a fun, casual place with tasty starters and entrees, great atmosphere for lunch, loud music and conversation in the evening and partying into the late night hours.  Yes, there is an Irish theme and that is one of enjoying the evening. 

 

Since it is St. Patrick’s Day, there will be a BIG St. Patrick Day’s Celebrity at McFadden’s all weekend long.  Beginning at noon on Saturday, March 15, the Irish-American punk band Flogging Molly will entertain for a three-hour-long show (with FREE admission) and autograph sessions before and after the performance, along with a live broadcast by the alt-hit music radio station, Area 107.9 FM. The green Bud Lights are $4 and Bare Knuckle Stout is $5 all day on Saturday. Then at 7 p.m., Vegas favorite Jeremy Cornwell and his band take to the stage for a three-hour set with the party going until 4 a.m.

 

On Monday a $10 Beer, Breakfast and Bloodies will be offered from 7 to 9 a.m. There is no cover to McFadden’s before noon, with a $20 cover after 12 noon except for redheads who will enjoy free admission from 3 to 7 p.m. McFadden’s will feature live broadcasts from alt-rock station X-treme 107.5 FM, green beer specials, leprechauns, bagpipers and Irish dancers from “Lord of the Dance” and stilt-walkers. In the theme of partying, beginning at 9:30 p.m., is the Make Your Own Green Bikini Contest, where ladies show off their creations (made from any green material they want) to the audience and compete for $500 in prizes.  This is the way St. Patrick’s Day was meant to be celebrated!
