Lieutenant Governor Brian K. Krolicki, Chair of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, which oversees the Nevada Film Office (NFO), announced the 2007 production revenues for the state of Nevada were $103,260,400, making the eighth consecutive year for film revenue to top the $100 million mark.

“I am pleased to say this continues our record-breaking trend for production revenue generated by film, television, multimedia, and print production,” said Krolicki. “This is a great accomplishment and particularly gratifying for our state because it occurred in spite of a writers strike that delayed numerous productions.”

More than half of the revenue was generated by television productions, including series, reality programs and specials. A quarter of the revenue came from feature films and the balance from commercials, music videos, documentaries and other film activity.

“We continue to strongly market and promote the state of Nevada as a production destination,” said Charles Geocaris, Director of the Nevada Film Office. “We proactively court productions, writers, producers and directors that may not be aware of all this state has to offer,” concluded Geocaris.

Additionally, the first, second and third place winning scripts have been announced for the Nevada Film Office Screenwriting Competition. The contest is the oldest of its kind in the United States, and 2007 marked the 20th year of the competition.  The Nevada Film Office will send the top three winning scripts to producers and production companies interested in the scripts for possible future projects.

The winning screenwriters are:

1st Place - “Edward Kowalski Must Die!” by Keith Melcher

2nd Place“Jerry Jones and the Living Dead Las Vegas Zombie Attack: the Musical” by Alan Donahue

3rd Place - “Fairplay” by Robert Cochrane
