Starting
today (March 11, 2008,) the Nevada Consumer Affairs Division (NCAD) is being
featured every Tuesday morning on KLAS-TV Channel 8’s Scam Alert
segments.
Scam Alert kicked off in early February with segments on various hot consumer fraud issues running every morning for a week. The feature was so well received that it is now a regular component of KLAS-TV’s programming, airing once a week on Tuesday mornings at approximately 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The segments in March focus on Health Club Fraud, Car Sales Fraud and Sweepstakes/Lottery Scams.
“We
are very pleased to partner with KLAS-TV in educating consumers
on how to prevent fraud and helping them respond
effectively should they become a victim,”
said
Commissioner James E. Campos. “It is extremely helpful to have another way
to keep Nevadans informed – through a medium that reaches our consumers more
directly.”
NCAD investigates thousands of complaints each year involving a range of enterprises, such as Buying Clubs, Charitable Solicitors, Credit Repair Organizations, Dance and Martial Arts Studios, Health Clubs, Magazine Sales, Recovery Rooms, Sports Betting Information Services, Telemarketers, Travel Agents, Tour Brokers/Operators, Weight Loss Clinics and more. By visiting the website, http://FightFraud.nv.gov, consumers can learn to recognize and avoid potential scams in a variety of industries.
