Are You Stuck on Stupid?

Are you constantly amazed that after so many years of life's experiences, you can still be naive and too trusting?

Having functioned in the entertainment biz for some 40 years now, I thought I had seen and experienced most of what that lifestyle had to offer...NOT!!  I trusted that my talent and fortitude would always bring me work and I trusted that the market would be fair and appreciative of those of us that remained in the entertainment arena, worked hard and brought forward a good product.  Not anymore.  All the buyer seems to care about is making a dollar and to hell with the performers.  They can either like being taken advantage of or don't come a callin'.

In Vegas in particular, there has been a trend since the late 90's called "two-walling" and "four-walling."  These trends are not good for those of us out there pounding the beat and trying to survive in what was already a difficult market.

Instead of being paid to perform, when one "walls" we have to pay them to allow us to perform shows with no guarantees.  In most cases, they won't even help promote the act.  It's all on the back of the show biz folk.  We have to rent the rooms, pay to advertise and in most cases give the room part of the door profits.  I honestly feel that the entertainment venues think that most performers are "Stuck on stupid."

My fellow thespians, please don't take it anymore!  My fellow friends and music lovers, please call or write the management of the rooms that "wall" and demand that they start paying performers legitimately and fairly for their expertise.  They will listen if you refuse to support them.

You can find out the procedure of entertainment venues by calling the management office and asking.

Folks, we have already seen a drop in the number of showrooms and live entertainment.  If we don't demand the entire enchilada, more and more singers and/or dancers and musicians will drop out or make other career choices.

The only way the boss is going to listen is if we the public stop spending our hard earned collars in their joint if they don't offer us appropriate muse.

Only we can stop the EPIDEMIC OF DUMBNESS that has allowed both entertainers and general public to settle for less than deserved!

Kisses, Gennifer Flowers
