As we know, the real exile
in Egypt was the exile of the mind. The Egyptians literally programmed everyone
to believe there was no cause and effect principle at work in our universe. They
used black magic to prove the lack of order in our world; everything was chance,
randomness and uncontrollable chaos. This perspective relieved the Israelites of
any responsibility and accountability for their actions.
The Israelites were so thoroughly programmed that they
did not even realize they were in slavery. Sometimes we, too, are ignorant to
the truth that a far more fulfilling and happier life exists on a different
path.
Our lesson today is this: we can gain real freedom and
peace of mind in our lives by realizing that we are indeed slaves to our
reactive nature. If we think everything is fine, we will never attain true
freedom. The root of our own negativity is our inability to understand that
whatever happens to us happens for a reason. Bad things occur to awaken us to
our reactive ways.
The real freedom from Egypt is a new awareness of the
concealed order and perfect universal laws at work in our lives.
Impossibility
is just an illusion of your ego, preventing you from true joy and contentment.
How do you allow your fears and insecurities to control
you or limit you so that you don't take risks in your life?
Leaving behind the limitations of the physical world -
what is your greatest dream yet unfulfilled? Let go of the critic within and
truly dream outside the box today.
It's easy to judge when we
see someone who is "spiritual" getting divorced or being mean or taking
advantage of someone. If he's so spiritual, why is he acting like that?!
What makes us think what we see is true reality? What
about the fact that there is always more than meets the eye?
The spiritual process is invisible, so you can never
really be certain how hard someone is working on their tikun [soul correction.]
It's very possible the person could have done something ten times worse. We
don't know.
Today, when you want to call someone a hypocrite, think
twice. Give them the benefit of the doubt. Remember we are all human and we all
have our soul work to do. Some are more advanced than others, but we're all on
the same journey. Besides, it's in our best interest to show a little mercy to
our fellow travelers because what goes around, comes around.
A great sage once said, "To questions there are answers,
but to answers there are no answers."
How many times do we ask spiritual questions although
we already have the negative answer in mind? We ask questions rhetorically, as a
way to put forth our opinions. This is not seeking truth.
Today, practice leaving your preconceived notions at
the door when you ask questions concerning deeper spiritual truths. Open
yourself up to objectively hearing the spiritual viewpoint.
It is taught by the Ari
that we are each responsible for 2,000 souls. We do not see it but there are
invisible chords tying us to other people we've never met. Every time we have a
personal breakthrough, 2,000 other people have a breakthrough. Every time we
lose a personal battle….you get the picture.
If our goal is to remove only the chaos from our own
lives, then we are limited in how effective we can be. Every goal is a vessel;
the bigger the goal, the bigger the vessel and therefore, the greater the
vessel's capacity for Light.
This doesn't mean that we shouldn't be interested in
receiving Light for ourselves. But without thinking and focusing on the bigger
picture, we limit our growth and the amount of Light we can receive.
Today, realize that every time you restrict, every time
you believe in yourself despite the doubt, every time you act with tolerance
despite feeling intolerant, you are making it easier for 2,000 other people to
do so as well. Always think of the bigger goal; the removal of chaos from other
people's lives.
If we want to grow
spiritually, then we must resolve ourselves to the fact that cleansing the ego
hurts. If we are afraid of feeling pain, then we are afraid of growing.
Let's say we are completely humiliated by someone.
Instead of letting the insult simmer for days, weeks, years, we can surrender to
the bruising and focus on the bigger goal of transformation and purification. We
can allow ourselves to feel the pain of humiliation, and we can move on faster
by saying, "Great! Just what I need! A good ego bashing to help me change and
purify!"
Forget about "feeling good" 100% of the time. If we are
not going through some downs, then there can't be those up that we love so much.
Today, see everything in terms of the big picture of your spiritual journey. And
release the need for immediate gratification in every moment.
