Sunday, May 11, 2008 is Mother’s Day and it is a wonderful time to show your mother, grandmother, stepmother, or anyone who has been like a mother to you much you appreciate them. I have come up with some ideas to make this Mother’s Day a special one.
Morton’s
the Steakhouse is featuring their Mother’s Day Champagne Cocktail with
champagne poured over a beautiful Wild Hibiscus flower, which “blooms”
before the eyes. A
feast for the eyes, this
bubbly is perfect as a pre-dinner cocktail, a celebratory toast with dinner
or accompanied by one of the restaurant’s decadent desserts.
“The Mother’s Day Champagne Cocktail is truly a beautiful creation, and mom will know she’s very special when she’s presented with this cocktail,” said Daniel Hurst, general manager of Morton’s The Steakhouse in Las Vegas. “The Wild Hibiscus Flower is a handsome garnish that’s also edible.”
The Wild Hibiscus flower garnish sits on the bottom of a fluted glass and chilled champagne is poured over it, making the flower “bloom” to reveal its magnificent colors. The Wild Hibiscus flower is an edible garnish with a sweet flavor.
Morton’s The Steakhouse will also feature an exclusive menu for $59 per person on Mother’s Day.
The Mother’s Day menu includes a choice of salad:
• Morton’s Salad with Morton’s Blue Cheese Dressing, chopped egg and anchovies
• Caesar Salad with classic dressing
A choice of one entrée:
• Single-cut filet mignon, béarnaise sauce
• Filet Diane with sautéed mushrooms in a demi glace mustard
• Filet Oskar, asparagus, jumbo lump crab, béarnaise sauce
• Broiled salmon filet, chef’s beurre blanc sauce
• Colossal Shrimp Alexander, beurre blanc sauce
• Chicken Christopher, garlic beurre blanc sauce
One side dish:
• Vegetable
• Potato
One dessert:
• Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake
• New York Cheesecake
Morton’s regular menu is also offered on Mother’s Day. From appetizers like the new Chilled and Baked Ocean Platters to entrees such as steaks, chicken, lamb and more, mom will have lots of options.

Morton’s The Steakhouse in Las Vegas is located at 400 East Flamingo Road. Hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. For more information or to make reservations, call (702) 893-0703.

There will be free admission, dessert and a concert at the Liberace Museum to celebrate Liberace’s birthday and his love for his mother on Sunday, May 11 from 12 noon to 4 pm. May 16 would have been Liberace's 89th birthday and in celebration, the 2008 Music In The Museum Series is featuring the Liberace Scholars Quartet.
Students from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will perform Mozart's String Quartet in D Major, K. 575. Written in 1789, just two years before the composer's premature death, this piece represents Mozart at the height of his craft. It was commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm II, King of Prussia, an amateur cellist; and for this reason Mozart highlights the cello in this elegant masterpiece.
The Mozart Quartet in D Major will be paired with Joseph Haydn's Quartet in F Minor, Op. 20, No. 5, to be performed by another of UNLV's premier student groups.
Performance times of the Liberace Scholars Quartet are 1:30pm and 3:00pm. Donations are requested for both performances. All contributions go to the Liberace Scholarship Fund to help talented students pursue careers in the performing and creative arts.
Liberace founded the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts in 1976 and since has awarded more than 5.5 million dollars in scholarship grants to more than 2200 students at over 110 colleges and universities. Liberace considered The Foundation one of his greatest achievements.
