The Division of Housing is conducting a 15-day public comment period, starting November 12, 2008, and running through noon on November 26, 2008, to provide an opportunity for public participation in the development of a proposed Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) Action Plan for Nevada.

NSP, a part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, is a new federal program which seeks to improve blighted neighborhoods by providing funding to government agencies for the purchase, rehabilitation and resale of foreclosed or abandoned homes to eligible households with incomes at or below 120% of the area median income. The federal government is providing approximately $24.2 million to fund the Nevada NSP program. These funds will be administered by the Division of Housing.
To maximize the benefit of the funds, Governor Gibbons created an NSP Taskforce, chaired by Wells Fargo Nevada Regional President Kirk Clausen. Meeting weekly, the goal of the Taskforce has been to bring all the municipalities and other interested parties together in order to make sure that all areas within the State are represented.
“In developing our Action Plan, we have worked closely with the local cities, counties and rural governments throughout Nevada to ensure that it’s as effective as possible,” said Chas Horsey, Housing Division Administrator. “Our goal is to use the funds to complement the efforts that local governments are undertaking to stabilize their communities and to fill in any gaps in the areas of the State that may not be covered by directed allocations of NSP funds from HUD.”
