Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada is pleased and proud to announce our receipt of a commitment of five million dollars from the Ralph & Betty Engelstad Foundation for the reconstruction of the Al Snyder Clubhouse on Dumont Avenue near the Boulevard Mall. The Engelstad Foundation gift also includes a building endowment and scholarship program for BGCSN members.
The Al Snyder Clubhouse was previous retail space before it was a Club. The current building is at capacity daily. The new two-story, 10,000 square foot facility will allow every child in the community who wants to join, to become a member. The new Clubhouse will include a state-of-the-art media center, art center, teen center, kids café and much more.
The inclusion of the building endowment ensures the facility will be maintained and financially supported and will not be a burden to the operational budget of the organization. The building endowment will cover routine maintenance costs, emergency repairs and improvements as needed. The Ralph & Betty Engelstad Clubhouse will be a lasting tribute to a family that truly cares about the children of Southern Nevada and their futures.
Evidence of the Engelstad’s concern for the youth of the community is clearly demonstrated by the establishment of a scholarship fund named for them. The Ralph Scholarship, will be awarded each year to one young man in the amount of $6,000; The Betty Scholarship will be awarded to one young woman in the amount of $6,000; and The Engelstad Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship, will be awarded to ten young men and/or women annually. All scholarships are renewable for up to four years of post-secondary education. The $1.5 million scholarship fund will be managed by the Boys & Girls Clubs Foundation.
