Ladies Daze

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of "Ladies in Poker," beginning with Ocean's Eleven fabulous CA Ladies State Poker Championship. See my blog titled "California Dreaming" for details. It was near perfect (except for the men who invaded our territory.) I recently received news from Oceans Eleven that the weekends events drew well over 200 ladies from all over the country and a whooping $13,000 was raised for Ocean's Eleven Charity, Ivey Ranch.
Last weekend, Sassy (real name: Michelle Richey, my wonderful, trusty assistant) and I headed up north to Reno for the NV Ladies State Championship, which was a LIPS (Ladies International Poker Series) event. I am happy to report that NO men played. I don't know if any tried to sign up but Nevada does NOT by law have to allow them to play.
Sassy and I started our weekend by playing in a $100 SitNGo. That is a "Sit and Go" which is a one table tournament for those of you not familiar with poker lingo. She and I busted all the men (eight) and split the pot which paid us for our entire weekend excursion. On Sunday we both took our seats in the Ladies event which was our excuse visit Reno. We both played great. Sassy is my protege, I am proud to say.
She
has come a long way and has a way to go but I sincerely believe she has what it
takes. I hated it when I busted her. She moved in when we were on the bubble for
the final table. She had pocket Queens. I was in hopes that I didn't have a hand
but I did. I peaked at pocket Kings. "I have to call you," I told her. "I'll
either double you up or bust you." Regretfully, it turned out to be the latter.
She was sad, but immediately turned her energy to sweating me into a win. A few
hours later, we were in the money and I truly believed I was going to win this
event. Fate had other plans and I had to settle for fourth place, but it was a
nice payday and a great trip.
Yesterday, the folks making a documentary about ladies in poker came to my home for a nice long visit and interview.

They filmed all over my house, which is a tribute to poker and my life in poker. They even filmed my precious poochie, Bette, who was wearing her poker bandanna. When they told me what this film is going to be about, Candi, (the producer) said, "It is sort of like your book, Queens Can Beat Kings, the film version! The working title of the film is Poker Chicks, the Felt Ceiling. Sorry, I don't care for the title. First of all I'm not a "Chick," and secondly, I doubt many will get the parallel of the felt ceiling. So, here is a challenge for you. Send me your ideas for a title for this film about the ladies of poker. If they ultimately use your title, I will send you a set of books by Susie Isaacs! It isn't just the pro players they are interviewing but also the ladies who are executives in the world of poker. Hey I have an idea, how about Kings Can Beat Kings, Broad-Minded Poker!
Jeannie West, a LIPS Grand Champion wore a shirt that read, "It's not really a BLUFF. Men just think they're holding bigger than they actually have."
