Women unite for the Obama/Biden ticket!
This weekend, more than 100 women met in house parties in Las Vegas and Reno to talk about Sen. Obama’s plan to help working women balance the needs of work and home. The roundtable focused on issues important to women juggling the needs of work and home, including equal pay for equal work, reproductive rights, and domestic violence. They also talked about why a McCain-Palin ticket would work to overturn Roe v. Wade, and would not support equal pay for equal work.

Hispanic community leaders rally around Obama/Biden
The Nevada Latino Leadership Advisory Committee announced last week consists of more then 70 community members committed to supporting the Obama/Biden ticket. The names on the list range from politicians, community organizers, teachers, students and people from various fields. The co-chairs include Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, Culinary 226 President Geoconda Arguello Kline, State Sen. Bob Coffin, Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen, El Mundo Publisher Eddie Escobedo Jr., Reno attorney and community activist Vito De La Cruz, UNR Professor and writer Emma Sepulveda, Nevada Democratic Party First Vice Chair Teresa Benitez-Thompson and Assemblyman Mo Denis. The Las Vegas Review Journal wrote about the new committee.

The committee will meet regularly to discuss ideas and strategies to effectively reach out to other Latinos in the Silver State. As November 4 approaches, we cannot forget that Hispanics are the fastest growing minority group in the nation and their vote will be crucial here in this battleground state.
Palin in Carson City Saturday
Gov. Sarah Palin is coming to Carson City on Saturday fresh off a speech in which she criticized community organizers and, as Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston indicated, worked to divide America.
The McCain/Palin ticket clearly doesn’t represent the change we need. Just as in every year and every election, they are playing from the same old Washington playbook, working this week to take comments out of context and run outrageous ads. Fact checkers are saying the ticket is stretching the truth and the American people are tired of the phony talk of change.
We have real problems in the country, and we’re going to work together to give answers to Americans who are struggling. This weekend, join us for a phone bank, a house party or a door-to-door canvas. The American people deserve a debate about the issues, not the same partisan divide. To see a list of events going on around the state, go to nv.barackobama.com.
If we let this kind of politics carry the day, we will go another four years without solving our health care crisis, our energy crisis or our housing crisis.
SPECIAL REPORT: THE RACE IS ON IN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 3!
The race is on! The Congressional District 3 race is heating up more and more, with ads up on the air from both sides, and more national attention. Real Clear Politics said the race is the 20th most competitive in the nation, and James Pindell pegged it at the 10th most competitive!
Rep. Rahm Emmanuel stopped by the district last week to tout Dina Titus’ candidacy and help her collect several major endorsements from educators.
You can
check out Dina’s first TV ad on her Web site: www.dinatitus.com. Unfortunately,
Rep. Porter has been trying to distort Sen. Titus’ record in his new ad. He’s
pulling from the Republican playbook that puts partisanship ahead of progress.
Jon Porter’s record in Congress and support of President Bush has helped result
in record gas prices, record foreclosures and record job losses. In her 20 years
of service in the state Senate, Dina Titus has made the tough decisions and
worked with Democrats and Republicans to solve problems and address the
challenges facing the state.
