Rav Ashlag, founder of The Kabbalah Centre, taught us egoless sharing is almost impossible. If a person wants to change and transform, he will never do it unless he gets something out of it. The engine of sharing and caring has to come from his ego.

The paradox is when we acknowledge our initial selfish motives, the rewards of our giving are longer lasting. But when we think we are doing it out of the goodness of our hearts, there will be a short-circuit at some point in the process.

Today, be ruthlessly honest with yourself. Seek out the seed of agenda in your giving. Rejoice in your opportunity to transform that seed of selfishness into a seed of selflessness.

What is the secret to being a good friend, or parent, or lover? Being there.

"Give people breathing space. Listen to them and hear what they have to say. Respect everyone without focusing on and being influenced by their external appearance, and above all, make enough room in your heart where you can love someone without thinking about what you can get in return." - The Rav

Today, find any strings attached in your care-taking and cut them! Just be there for somebody, unconditionally.

The Light of the Creator is not somewhere up in the sky. Sparks of the Light are everywhere - in every person, in every tree, and even in seemingly lifeless inanimate objects.

This is one of the most important teachings of Kabbalah. Our task is to recognize the divine sparks that permeate our environment, and through our positive spiritual work, to cause them to grow brighter and stronger.

Today, nurture these sparks in everything you do and in everyone you meet.

It is written, "if a man's wife is shorter than he, he must bend down to speak to her."

Metaphorically, this means we must meet people at their level - communicating in ways they will understand.

Today, get to know your audience and speak to each person in the way they can best hear what you have to offer.

What are you thinking about?

Many people are surprised to learn that they spend all day in meditation. Consciously or unconsciously, we are constantly devoting our precious mental powers to obsessing or worrying over an infinite array of pressing details. Rent. Health. Relationships. Lunch. Fill in the blank.

Today, why not devote some of this energy to thinking about a lesson or kabbalistic principle, something that can help you grow? The kabbalists recommend spending a few moments alone, eyes closed, concentrating on a deep spiritual lesson you have learned.

Doing this allows the concealed aspect of the learning to emerge into your consciousness.

Your blessings are trapped ... in other people.

Take back the Light! Go to one person today, with whom you're having trouble seeing eye to eye, and tell them (in a proactive manner) something they are right about.

The more difficult it is to confront the person, the more Light you will reveal. Now, go get back your Light that you are giving to other people!

Kabbalah teaches that the pain we draw into our lives is the pain we need to help us grow.

Today, I ask you to recall a moment when someone really hurt you. I'm talking about a time in your life you wouldn't revisit if I paid you a million dollars. Remember exactly how you felt when the person hurt you.

Dig deep and ask yourself why that person was in your movie in the first place. Why did you cast them in that role? There is now an opening in the universe for you to really get to the bottom of things and to have clarity on a truly painful part of your life.
