Tests for corrections officers are Tuesday, Feb. 2 and May 18, at 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the LVMPD Personnel Bureau, 101 Convention Center Drive.   Tests for police officers are Tuesdays on Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12 and June 9, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Suncoast Hotel, 9090 Alta Drive.  Physical fitness tests will be given on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Tuesday, May 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Cheyenne

Sports Complex, 3500 E. Cheyenne, No. Las Vegas. Numerous training sessions are available in advance for the various tests.

Interested individuals must be scheduled for testing and should call LVMPD Personnel Bureau at (702) 828-5601 or visit www.protectthecity.com for scheduling and detailed information.

Applications, available at www.protectthecity.com, are accepted on a monthly basis for the next available test.  Candidates interested in a later testing date should wait until that specific test date application becomes available.

Salary and benefits begin immediately upon entering the LVMPD Police Academy and LVMPD Corrections Officer Academy. New officers earn more than $53,000 after the first year.  In addition, the full benefits package includes merit increases, paid vacations and holidays, tuition reimbursement, retirement plans, no state income tax, and health, vision and dental insurance.

The LVMPD hiring process is divided into four stages: recruitment, selection training, background testing and final review.  During the process, candidates are exposed to the “realism” of criminal interaction, physical training and other pertinent courses such as firearms, criminal investigations, report writing, patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, police administration, police professionalism and ethics, human relations and diversity, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, physical conditioning and criminal and civil law.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is one of the largest and fastest growing police agencies in the country. It serves and protects more than 1.6 million residents in the city of Las Vegas and Clark County and almost 40 million tourists who visit the area each year.  Due to its size and service area, LVMPD has many opportunities for advancement and specialization in areas such as SWAT, air support, motorcycle and K-9 units, mounted patrol, search and rescue, undercover operations, and several investigative units.

For more information about job details, minimum requirements, testing process and benefits, call the LVMPD Personnel Bureau at (702) 828-5601 or visit www.protectthecity.com or www.lvmpd.com.
