Vegas PBS Local Production ‘Remembering the Holocaust: Las Vegas Survivors Tell Their Stories’
to Air this November

Holocaust Prison CampNearly 350 Holocaust survivors call Las Vegas home, and of these, eight share their lives and experiences in “Remembering the Holocaust: Las Vegas Survivors Tell Their Stories.” The program airs on Monday, Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. and repeats on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 and 10.1.

The idea for “Remembering the Holocaust: Las Vegas Survivors Tell Their Stories” came from a student project that was initially commissioned by the Clark County School District (CCSD). The project found its origins after winners of the Holocaust Essay Contest for middle school students of Southern Nevada earned the opportunity to interview local Holocaust survivors. Although the students are not featured in the documentary, this program contains responses survivors gave to their questions.

The winners, who were selected from 135 entries into the essay contest, were able to get a firsthand account of the hardships individuals had to endure and ultimately survive during the Holocaust. CCSD curriculum was then developed for teachers and the winners’ interviews were put online into streaming video so that all students could experience what life was like for survivors before, during and after the Holocaust. The curriculum materials developed from the program, as well as countless hours of video footage from the interviews, are available through the Vegas PBS Educational Media Services for download and use within classrooms.

Emmy-winning producers Gary Williams and Reginald LaFrance found the student interviews so compelling that they created this one-hour documentary.

“Remembering the Holocaust: Las Vegas Survivors Tell Their Stories” will repeat throughout the month on both Vegas PBS Jackpot! Cox Cable channel 111 and Vegas PBS Rewind Cox Cable channel 110.
