Washington, DC – Senator John Ensign today (October 26, 2009) made the following statement regarding the Democrats’ plan to include a public plan option in the final version of the Senate healthcare bill:
“I am disappointed that Democrats have chosen to ignore Americans’ wishes and instead will move ahead with including a government-run option, also known as a public plan option, in the Senate bill. I strongly oppose a government takeover of our healthcare system in America and will continue to fight against Democrats’ attempts to include it in the bill,” Ensign said.
“A government takeover could force private insurers out of the marketplace and therefore force hundreds of millions of Americans, against their will, into government-run health care. If this plan is enacted, it will shift costs to those with private insurance and result in higher premiums and higher taxes for everyone. A public plan, with one signature from President Obama, could severely damage our healthcare industry as we know it and turn every one of our healthcare decisions over to government bureaucrats.”
