Positive 5 2009–2010 Week 4

Each week we track the 5 college hoop teams that I have determined will show a “positive return on investment” by season’s end. Last year’s Pos 5 came in at 62% ATS. A nice chunk of change, come “March Madness.”

This year I have selected Cornell, Tenn., Siena, Minn. and the Cal. Bears.

After going 7 & 0 the week of Dec. 10–17, we slipped to 3 & 2 this past week as the Siena Saints transgressed (the little devils!) to the Panthers of Northern Iowa…82 to 65 while getting 4 1/2 points.

After 7 lead changes in the first half, the Saints could not keep up with No. Iowa, who shot over 50% for the game, including that same high percentage from 3 pt. land.

The Golden Gophers and The Volunteers each played 2 games while winning two SU and losing one ATS.

Tubby Smith’s Gophers routed, both St. Josephs (who happen to be 0 and 2 against the Pos 5, losing last week to Cornell) and Northern Illinois. In the No. Ill. victory, Minn. jr. Blake Hoffarber broke a school record, while connecting on 8 three pointers.

Meanwhile, Tenn. covered against Middle Tenn. and won SU, but did not cover vs. The Wyoming Cowboys.

The Volunteers are one of the highest scoring teams in Div. 1 averaging 82 points a game. It gets a little tougher however, scoring wise, for all the Pos 5 teams, as league play is about to begin.

This coming week the 5 play a total of 6 games thru next Thursday (press time).

For the season thus far, The Pos 5 stand at a more than respectable 24 and 14 63 %. At $200 per unit, we have pocketed $2380. Beats the “bread line”…

Here’s hoping “we hit nothing but net.”
