The Brunch at Simon Restaurant and Lounge

Opened in April, 2008, Simon Restaurant and Lounge (as in Chef Kerry Simon) at Palms Place is surrounded with an incredible view of Red Rock canyon in the distance along with the glamour of the dramatic outdoor pool outdoors, accompanied by Chef Simon’s special touch with a gourmet menu and one of the best bars in town.

So how about Sunday Brunch in your pajamas?

It is not necessary for you to wear your PJs but our wait staff did and what a treat – eye candy along with sweets for the tummy.  This is truly decadent with serious comfort food, a Bloody Mary bar and some healthy alternatives thrown in “just in case” you can or want to overcome the temptation of the Simon Junk Food Platter of cotton candy, snowballs, rice krispie treats, hostess cakes and cookies along with the other goodies on the menu.

The brunch starts off with one of your delectable wait staff bringing a plate of warm beignets which are truly one of the best in the world!  Before perusing the menu and deciding what to get from the buffet, there is the all-you-can-drink Bloody Mary bar.  With ingredients such as different vodkas, several juices including Clamato and tomato, Dave’s Insanity Hot Sauce, chopped cilantro, chopped parsley, celery stalks, beef jerky, stuffed olives and glass rimming options such as crumbs, salts and spice blends, you can make the perfect Bloody Mary.

After sitting down with your beverage including Bellinis, mimosas, coffee, smoothies and juices, then you can begin to sample the buffet stations and order from the menu.

First, there is the Whole Fruits and Smoothies station with fresh fruit carved to order, along with breads, coffee cake, muffins, croissants, pastries, vanilla bean yogurt with granola.

Then there is the Sushi Station with the Sushi Master featuring Simon’s signature crispy sesame rice and spicy tuna, which is incredible and certainly adds to Simon’s reputation of unique gourmet food.  There is also assorted sushi and sashimi with salmon, shrimp and yellowtail.  Simon Rolls includes spicy tuna, California, Philly, cucumber and eel.  If you are in the mood for soup, there is miso soup with tofu and wokame.

For those of us who love carbs, the Panni Station will cook to order a pecorino cheese and honeycomb baguette, grilled ham and Fontina on pretzel bread, blue cheese with fig jam on a baguette along with assorted bagels and smoke salmon.

What is a Sunday brunch without peel and eat shrimp?  There is a huge bowl at the shrimp station along with Simon’s house-made remoulade sauce, cocktail sauce and Louis.

Brunch at Simon would not be complete without the Candy Bar Station where guests can find vintage lunch boxes and large glass jars filled with all sorts of candies.

Then there are the à la carte dishes you can order off the menu.   The Simon French toast is created with a frosted flake crusted brioche and fluffy buttermilk pancakes are accompanied by real maple syrup.

For meat lovers, try the breakfast sliders on mini bagels with crisp bacon and American cheese. Egg lovers can try the protein scramble of roasted chicken, asparagus and egg whites or the Simon omelet, filled with jumbo crab, artichoke, and havarti cheese.  You can order your eggs any way you want with more ingredients than can be listed here. Breakfast pizza, oh yes, breakfast pizza is topped with country gravy, ham, bacon and a runny egg, sunny-side up, in its dead center.

Then there are the “White Trash” selections of fried chicken and waffles with that real maple syrup, pigs in a blanket, barbecue pork baby back ribs and biscuits and gravy. Along with this wonderful meal, you have to try their fries with a nice touch that by putting up a sign at your table, you can request “Frites Please.”

This being a family-style affair, children have not been neglected. Fresh fruit is carved into little pieces and stuck to little clumps of rice, sushi style along with peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese and popcorn chicken bites.

The whole experience is so fun, so incredible and so filling!  Just don’t plan on eating for the rest of the day after Sunday Brunch at Simon.  Served on Sundays only, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
