“Hats Off To Child Focus”
Invites Neighbors To Tea At The Sixth Annual Mother’s Day Event
Mother’s Day is a time to honor the women we love. In keeping with this special occasion, Child Focus, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the state’s foster care system is hosting the Sixth Annual Mother’s Day Tea. This afternoon affair celebrates the special bond of mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and dear friends. The tea is being held in the Valencia Ballroom at JW Marriott Las Vegas on Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Five special adoptive and/or foster mothers will be honored this year at the tea. The “My Special Mom” contest is sponsored by Cox Communications and will feature five categories where contestants of different age groups can submit an essay and/or picture to nominate their foster or adoptive mothers. Each of the five winners will receive a prize package valued at over $1000. Entries must be mailed to the Child Focus office at 4310 S. Cameron, Suite 13, Las Vegas, NV 89103 and postmarked no later than April 17th.
“Our tea is a community tradition with attendees coming year after year,” says Dr. Stephanie Holland, Child Focus founder. “We are so excited to be adding the “My Special Mom” contest honoring 5 special mothers and feel this will be a tremendous complement to the event.”

Upon arrival to the tea guests are served a complimentary glass of champagne or mimosa to enjoy. During the reception, everyone is invited to mingle while visiting the silent auction area filled with fabulous items such as entertainment packages, luxurious gift baskets, show tickets, restaurant certificates, jewelry, artwork, health and wellness packages, retail certificates and a luxury weekend getaway at JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa …just to name a few! Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase.
A very special ‘balloon draw’ showcasing the grand prize of mother/daughter matching pendants is compliments of event sponsor M.J. Christensen and will be on display and drawn at the end of the program.
As in past years, the youngest ladies are entertained by VIP’s (which stands for ‘Very Important Princesses’). A supervised arts and crafts area is set up to keep little ones engaged throughout the reception and tea and each child receives a special princess gift to take home.
For the teen set, professional makeup artists will be on hand providing mini makeovers and skin-care tips.
KVBC channel 3 evening news anchor Sue Manteris will once again serve as mistress of ceremonies and headline entertainment is compliments of Las Vegas’ very own Zowie Bowie.
A delectable menu including scones with Devonshire cream and fruit preserves, an assortment of delicious finger sandwiches, a selection of French pastries, Petit Fours and tea cookies, along with formal hot tea service has been designed by the resort’s culinary team, led by Executive Chef Bruce Knapik. Iced tea and coffee are available upon request. To satisfy even the littlest of partygoers, pink lemonade and favorite finger sandwiches such as PB&J and ham and cheese will be served.
“One of my favorite aspects of our Mother’s Day celebration is the fact that many of our attendees come in traditional tea attire, hats and all,” states Holland. “We’ve become Las Vegas’s Kentucky Derby of sorts! After all, what’s a tea without fancy hats?”
Event pre-registration is required and reservations can be made by calling 436-1624. Adult tickets are $55 per person for traditional tea fare and children are $35 per person for junior tea delights. As an added incentive for making reservations, a special mother/daughter ticket priced at $75 is available until April 24 (a $15 savings). Tables of ten people can also be purchased for $500. Proceeds from the event benefit Child Focus. For more information, please visit www.childfocusnv.org.
