Gordie
Brown is back and better than ever, performing in
the showroom now named after him in the Golden
Nugget, after debuting there in 2004, moving to the
Venetian, then V Theater before going on tour with
Celine Dion.
He doesn’t claim to be the greatest impersonator or
comedian or singer, but he does deliver a
high-energy performance and is a little more edgy
with the audience. When people left in the middle
of the show, or came in late, he definitely brought
attention to them, so be prepared if you have to get
up during his performance.
Brown
admits that not all impressions will appeal to all
age groups, bouncing from Sammy Davis, Jr. to Green
Day to Jack Nicholson. It is obvious that Brown
LOVES to talk about former presidents Clinton and
Bush and incorporate these two into many of his cast
of impressions. He does both parodies (such as
singing about Neil Diamond’s costly divorce) and
tributes (Louis Armstrong) and lets the audience
know that HE KNOWS they understand the jokes and
digs.
While Brown has been entertaining for over 20 years,
he displayed a confidence in his ability and stage
presence in this new show, even with the
“competition”
of Danny Gans and Terry Fator appearing in their own
showrooms on the Strip. The show is rapid-fire,
quick-witted and almost in-your-face with a live
band on stage to enhance the entire experience.
Brown even spoke of his personal life, that he is to
become a father for the fourth time and introduced
his ex-wife who was in the audience. This is a
departure from his previous shows which were all
about celebrities and politicians.
Brown is truly part of Las Vegas entertainment
royalty and has found a great home at the Golden
Nugget. Even if you have seen him perform at other
venues, he is fresh and contemporary and his shows
are never the same.
