Drowning Prevention Takes Center Stage
The North Las Vegas Fire Department on Friday will launch the movie theater release of a drowning prevention public service announcement called, “Take a Second, Protect a Child.”

The spot is expected to help parents avoid daily situations that could put their children at risk of drowning. From January to April 1, four children drowned in pools in the Las Vegas Valley. Three of them were in North Las Vegas. During that time, there also were 10 near-drowning incidents reported.
The movie trailer is funded by a $20,000 grant obtained in partnership with the Clark County and Henderson fire departments from the Fire House Subs food chain. The spot will run from April 3 to May 14 in theaters across Southern Nevada. It will run again for two weeks in September. The spot is the first part of a broader drowning prevention campaign. The second part of the campaign includes billboard cutouts with firefighters and children conveying a water safety message. The third component of the campaign will be the placement of seven billboards in high-traffic areas across Southern Nevada.

announcement can be viewed on the City’s web site at
