Democrats in Legislature hard at work on budget

Despite Gov. Jim Gibbons' flip flops on the issues, Nevada's Democratic state legislators have made passing legislation to accept federal funds to increase and extend unemployment benefits for out-of-work Nevadans a priority.

Legislators also continued hearings this week to set priorities for essential services in the state budget, and worked hard to identify where it's possible to trim the budget.

State Senators Joyce Woodhouse and Mike Schneider will also host a forum in Henderson on Saturday to discuss education and the economy with their constituents.

Democratic Organizing Convention to Feature Senator Reid

As Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid has accomplished amazing things for Nevada, from leading the fight to kill the dangerous Yucca Mountain Project and fast-tracking renewable energy development in Nevada to securing $1.5 billion in critical economic recovery funds for our state and working with President Obama to rebuild our economy.

Next week, Sen. Reid will be in Las Vegas to talk to local supporters and volunteers about his 2010 reelection campaign, which is already in full swing. We must reelect Sen. Reid so he can continue to fight for the things that matter to Nevadans. The state needs a tireless advocate in Washington to ensure legislation is passed that creates jobs in Nevada, helps those affected by the foreclosure crisis and cleans up the fiscal mess left behind by eight years of failed leadership by George W. Bush.

On April 14, Reid will meet with volunteers at the first ever Democratic Party Organizing Convention in Clark County. This will be an opportunity for volunteers who were instrumental in our triumphs in 2008 and those who are getting involved in the party for the first time to join together to organize. The Nevada State Democratic Party relies on grassroots Democrats like you to get involved and help ensure Democratic victories across the state by organizing better and sooner than Republicans.
