Every year, May brings out the
best in Las Vegas entertainment. In recent months, several shows have opened,
and there are still more are on the horizon. The convention calendar is full.
The summer season is upon us, and the pool party schedule is active until
September. It is a crucial time for productions to get a strong foothold into
the entertainment world and establish themselves for the very busy fall season.
The summer will generally determine what shows are going to be staying around
for a while and which ones will be closing forever. This May is going to be an
interesting month for a lot of reasons. May is always an odd transitional
month...the weather is changing as frequently as the shows...the only thing that
we can really count on is that we know that by the end of the month, things will
start getting hot…and the economic situation is a wild card for this entire
season. Last month, the Visitor and Convention Bureau reported that tourism was
at a “normal” level, but hotels reported losses due to the fact that room rates
have been slashed.
Remember that Mother's Day is on the 10th. If you're in town, there are several
shows that will offer specials for you and your mother. If you're not in
town...just remember Mom.
Every
bar and club will have Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
May
15th is the 104th Anniversary of the founding of the City of Las
Vegas. No one really cares about this statistic. We had a great 100-year
celebration, and we may have to wait for the 150-year mark to get the city to
celebrate again.
The Fremont Street Experience
welcomes music sensations Justin Lanning, Tempest Blue, Dezmond Meeks and Louie
Louie as they take the Fremont Street stage on Friday, May 1 in celebration of
the 2009 Las Vegas Pride Parade. The event will be hosted by former reality TV
show winner of the fourth season of “The Amazing Race,” Reichen Lehmkuhl, as he

Parade will broadcast live on Cox Cable Channel 96.
Men
of “X,” the sexy male revue spicing things up at Hooters Casino Hotel, is
holding auditions for experienced male dancers this Friday, May 1, in the Night
Owl Showroom starting at 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and
should bring a headshot, resume and valid ID. “We’re seeking talented,
charismatic dancers who exude sex appeal and have what we like to call the “X”
factor, as opposed to the ‘it’ factor,” said producer Angela Stabile. “Come
prepared to strut your stuff on stage, and most of all, have fun.”
The
Las Vegas Tenors will be performing at the Suncoast Showroom, May 1, 2 and 3 at
7:30 p.m. Since 2005, the Las Vegas Tenors -- Bill Fayne, Bobby Black and Teddy

Three unique individual sounds fuse to create a rich, full and colorful display
of musicianship that has created a strong following. Known for taking audiences
from the heights of the Grand Opera to the smooth groove of jazz, on to the
bright lights of Broadway and finally back to the classic pop sounds of
yesterday and today, the Las Vegas Tenors have been praised by entertainment
writers and music legends alike.

making every performance an original and captivating audiences with his charisma
and signature style. Known best in Las Vegas for his recent six-year run at

Twain’s.

The biggest entertainment news
is the opening of “The Lion King.” Previews are starting on May 5th,
and the Grand Opening will be in the last part of the month. Mandalay Bay’s
production will be virtually identical to the other companies seen around the
globe and will be staged with all of the same spectacular music, sets, and
costumes that have made it a worldwide phenomenon. Disney’s, “The Lion King”
continues to reign as one of the most popular shows around the world. The global
phenomenon is the winner of more than 70 major awards worldwide including the
Tony Award® and NY Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, the Grammy® for Best
Musical Show Album and the

Days are on the horizon. A Las Vegas tradition since 1934, Helldorado Days
recaptures the spirit of the Old West. It is a celebration of our community's
western heritage for residents and visitors. It is the longest running civic
event in the area. For generations, southern Nevadans have joined in Helldorado
Days with parades and events that highlight our city's western heritage. The
